Smoking is one of the major problems in today's world. This issue is getting more and more serious as we can see in public places where women and children are starting to smoke cigarettes. As a witness of its damage on people, I totally agree that the state of New Jersey should maintain the “Smoke Free Air Act of 2006” prohibiting people from smoking in its public access bars, clubs, and restaurants for the following reasons; First of all, children are easily influenced in their growing stages. Furthermore, second hand smoke is harmful. Last, tobacco is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the State and the nation. Smoking affects the society in an enormous way. In fact, there have not been found any benefits of smoking to human health up to now. In contrast, cigarette smoking causes a number of health problems which are expensive to treat. It is a major cause of respiratory diseases such as asthma, lung cancer and bronchitis. It also leads to heart disease. "Even low levels of tobacco exposure lead to disease and death, including heart attack, stroke, a weakened immune system and asthma attacks." The amount of tobacco does not have any main purpose yet it is harmful to have any amount within the body. Recent studies show that smoking also shortens life expectancy. Investigating this case in a different point of view, smoking would not only affect smokers’ health, but it will eventually end up affecting the smoker’s personal economy. Depending on the state the prices of cigarettes can differ. But even at an affordable price the regular consumption of cigarettes will eventually take its economic toll. Therefore, banning smoking in public places can reduce at least some of these problems and would enable people to live in a healthier way.
In conclusion, smoking really causes negative effect on one's health, society and environment. Smoking activity should continue being banned in public places so that a new page for health and development of the whole population would be open up. These are only a few out of many other effects that cigarette smoking can have, but to any sensible person they are more than enough to realize that smoking is bad.
