Every day thousands of minors are using social media accounts online. A huge percentage of these children are seeing nothing but negative affects from this time consuming and addictive source of "entertainment". Minors should not be able to make personal accounts on social media because not only is it a distraction but it also is potentially harmful to underage persons who cant handle the consequences of irresponsible actions on the internet.

Many children get bullied and harassed online everyday. Research shows that 88% of teens have seen someone be mean or cruel to another person on a social networking site, and 15% say they were the target of online cruelty. Teachers feel that the time their students spend looking at posts throughout the day, take away from the amount of knowledge they retain. When teens use their phones in class to be on social media apps, they are not able to fully pay attention to instruction given to them by their teacher. Another really important reason minors should not be allowed to make social networking accounts is because of stalkers and shady characters on the internet. Besides the option to receive personal messages on nearly every social platform in the cyber world, stalkers may also gain access to personal information if they hack into a Facebook account. Another thing to consider is the GPS tracking that Facebook offers, especially when you “check-in” at certain locations. Minors are usually not careful when it comes to this issue because they believe that "It will never happen to me" or "I'm safe here at home.
