Social Stratification In My Society

Social stratification within my society has always been prevalent but sometimes overlooked. I come from a family of which my parents were never married and raised by my father. With just those two factors, I am classified in a lower class based on that fact that I would socially be considered “underprivileged.” Social stratification is the idea that societies put people into categories and ranks them in a hierarchy. When it comes to me, I am socially mobile. This means although I am socially as a underprivileged and lower class when it comes to society, I am breaking those barriers and statistics and proving myself to be otherwise. Socialization is a lifelong experience by which people learn cultures and their potential. When I think of socialization, I think of the way humans interact with each other within a society. I think of how others express themselves and their culture. I have seen many diverse and unique socialization patterns through my life. An example of this for me is the change of my socialization throughout my teenage years and young adulthood. The way I socialized with other people when I was in high school is completely different from how I’d socialize with somebody now. In high school, I was very quiet and did not pay much attention or expressed my culture. In contrast to my high school years, I am very active with talking to others and my culture lives through every action that I do. A manifest function is the intended consequence of a social pattern. Lorain County Community College’s purpose for me is to help educate myself and prepare me for a career in my studies. This is the direct and straight purpose of the college for me. When I arrive at a 4-year university, such as Kent State, the university will have a manifest and latent function, an unintended consequence of the facility. By attending LCCC, I have found only what I expected to find: academic and personal development.

Doctor-assisted suicide, or active euthanasia, is a popular moral issue that is debated across America. Active euthanasia is available for terminally ill people who use medical services to die in 6 states. In my psychology class, I studied and did a website review on the pros and cons of active euthanasia so I’m fairly familiar and knowledgeable on the topic. In my personal experience, I had an aunt who was dying from terminal cancer and her symptoms were prolonged and tiring. She had brought up the idea of active euthanasia and unexpectantly, my family agreed with her decision. Although she never went through with it, she ultimately ended up passing away comfortably in her own home. My personal beliefs on euthanasia are that one should be able to do what they want with their body if their mental state is in good
