Before coming to the United States of America I didn’t like public speaking at all and was always scared giving presentation or speeches. Whenever I had to give speeches in front of the class I would always get very nervous and would do a lot of practice in front of the mirror which was really helpful for me and helped me ace my speech. My teachers would always say I have a very loud and confident voice but the only thing I had to work was on my nervousness which led to lack of eye contact and not able to stand still while delivering the speech. But I have participated in a lot of shows and plays in school which boosted my confidence. When I took public speaking in the winter quarter I was really excited for it as I liked presenting in front of people and I wanted to …show more content…
When I first went to class we were told about what all we had to expect from this class and how we would first learn about who to prepare and deliver a speech. The public speaking book was really helpful as it taught us about what all we had to do from preparing our outline to delivering the speech. The professors lecture told us how to apply that knowledge. Which included how to stand which is the posture, delivery of the speech and how we had to make eye contact with the people. When the speeches started I was really scared for the first speech which was the informative speech. We had to inform the audience about a particular topic. I presented a speech on the topic “space shuttle “. Since this was my first speech I prepared a lot for it and was very nervous for presenting my speech infant of the class. I made my outline according to the guidelines provided and got a lot of help from the communication lab. They not only helped me with the outline but also helped me in preparing for the delivery of the
Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. Have you ever thought of what goes through the mind of infamous public speakers? How they did it? well maybe if you knew what you were looking for you could find out. The main elements a public speaker uses to construct their speeches would be what type of propaganda their going to use, and what persuasive aspects should they use to capture the audience attention. After being chosen as the President of National Honor Society, the most active club at my school, one of my duties was inducting the new members each year. I remember the butterflies in my stomach as I looked out at all the NHS members and their parents sitting in the huge auditorium. My principal and head of school were both keenly listening to me speak as I prayed not to stutter on any words. However, with every word that left my mouth, I felt my level of confidence rising. After finishing off strong and hearing the roar of applause, I realized that effective public speaking is a vital leadership skill that I definitely
Here is a prescription not just to be a good speaker, but to be a good man. He recognizes that his training program is arduous, and has no illusions that most will be up to the task. Regarding the actual mechanics of giving a speech, Quintilian offers mountains of practical advice. Among the best bits of wisdom are: 1. Do not write your speech down unless you intend to deliver it verbatim, which will rarely happen.
As an undergraduate student, I am still a novice in the field of psychology. To improve and become more accomplished in the Teaching and Training pathway, such as the position of a psychology teacher, I could read more journal articles and expand my knowledge of studies, treatment, and terminology. Additionally, an area of needed improvement is my public speaking skill. While I am most comfortable communicating in a one-on-one or group setting, I find my limited experience with public speaking to be a detriment. As a result, I speak quickly and may communicate ineffectively.
I presented a book report in front of my English 3 class and educated the audience about Robert Penn Warren's life and career as a writer, as well give my opinion on the book All the King's Men: one of Warrens most popular. I spoke clearly, used my hands, and gave my facts about the author and book. I learned how calm down and talk in front of the class with confidence. I used creative thinking by presenting with my hands and using body language. My power point was appealing to the eye and was detailed with facts.
Being confident shows your audience you are comfortable talking about your topic and that you are well informed on what you are specking of. Another thing that I can improve on is relaxing, for example, to not be so nervous. If I can think two steps ahead before I speak it would prepare me for what I am about to say which will allow my words to flow out smoothly and correctly. I plan on improving these skills by practicing more speeches in front of people and doing some relaxation exercises before my speech. I believe by implementing more speeches and doing some of the exercises, it will have me more relaxed, keep my mind focused and boost up my confidence so that I may present my speech flawlessly for an A plus grade.
I will practice more to gain confidence before giving any speech. It will help me to deliver any speech with more confidence and less stress. Practicing in front of the mirror is one of the ways that helps me to reduce my stress level. Thus, I will remember to look at the audience while speaking instead of looking down in the notes.
Rationale Written task: Britt Wesseling I have chosen a ted talk as my text type, because I think this is a great opportunity to advice people on how to be a great public speaker. For my Informative Speech in COMM 210, I wanted to inform my class on my workplace, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. The specific purpose of my speech was for my audience to know the past, present, and achievements of this theme park by the end of my speech. I feel I achieve this pretty well. For this speech, I was much more comfortable in front of the class. This allowed me to keep it together and not let my nerves get to the best of me.

However, I lack skill in engaging the audience through tone. This is definitely something I plan to improve upon. My tone in the first presentation didn’t make it seem like I cared enough though I did. Additionally, I didn’t like that my tone of voice stayed generally neutral throughout the presentation. I did an excellent job at standing confidently and not making any distracting movements.
3. Don't act like a statue walk around the stage or presentation area but don't wander too far 4. Don't distract from your message by including
As students, presentations are something that is required in most classes yet, students do not see themselves as public speakers. Throughout high school and now in college, I have had to present material in 80 percent of the classes that I have taken. Presenting was, and still is something that I struggle with no matter how big or how small the group is that I am presenting to. I knew that Public Speaking was a required class for me so, rather than putting it off, I decided to go ahead and get it out of the was as soon as possible. Speaking in front of people is out of my comfort zone.
