Victorian Era Entertainment Although the victorian era was a time of poverty and trouble to the people of england, they still enjoyed playing sports. Some of the sports the would play was football, croquet, tennis & cricket.
Actually, during 1871 the first football game took place. After that a lot of football clubs started. Even though they were mostly under control of the churches only to bring people to the churches, but not all of them some were set up by people who actually trying to get good players to win more games.
Its surprising that the game was originally made only to keep people in shape. People only started to take it serious in about 1891 when they started establishing penalty rules to make sure the game was played correctly. …show more content…

They had a safety bicycle up for sale in 1885 in it was the most least expensive forms of transportation. Even men and women if they lived in a town would ride their bikes out on the countryside as a hobby. They enjoyed it as a pass time but it ended up catching on as a sport. Meanwhile in London they actually banned the bicycle because people would be riding so quickly that they were disruptive and dangerous among the horse traffic. The sports for children in this time was playing an instrument, gardening, walking, visiting, riding , and reading. These sports were considered appropriate for children because for most of the 19th century parents they believed that their children shouldn't be involved in mentally or physically exhausting activities or any that would interfere with their chores.
Even though kids in that time shouldn't have been playing with cards since it would lead to gambling they still did. They wouldn't play cards though, they would just build houses of cards. Kids were allowed to play with cards they just had to be cards made for children games. In the earlier part of the 19th century, most of the children's cards were educational. They would teach the children math, geography and science. There were even some cards that would teach the girls how to
