"We need to defend the interests of those whom we've never met and never will" (Sachs, n.d.). According to Brundtland (2015), the being of the future generations is the responsibility of all today's people (Ranny, 2015). It indicates that every behavior in this day can influence the next generation. The Brundtland Commission has defined the meaning of sustainability as "a development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (UCLA, n.d.). Sustainability is to develop cities' three pillars which are economy, environment, and society to be well-balanced. In this case, the form of method that has been used for reaching the sustainability in many cities is The Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities (RFSC). This measures how the cities will be sustainable based on the three pillars. Although the city took an action on the problems of poverty, food and shelter insecurity, many people are still homeless and the shortage of food in a present day and the number are still rising incessantly. As well as, numerous people are not following the regulation of the city and this is the biggest problem since it cannot control the citizens and the city. Hence, the illegality and violence such as discrimination, crime and corruption can be easier to occur in the city. If these problems are not instantly addressed by the city, it will cause a long-term effect also other problems cannot be solved. These are major reasons that halt the city from the sustainability. Therefore, Johannesburg should pay more attention to the society's problems and also cooperate with the citizens to provide and improve a high quality of people's lives and strive for becoming a sustainable
