The digital age is altering business paradigms (Mckinsey, 2015). The VUCA-volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (Stiehm & Townsend, 2002) world has impacted organisations at large. Digitization and disruption are inevitable and integral to the evolving corporate landscape. The digital onslaught has brought about mammoth disruptions to business models, nature of work (Bersin, 2016; Schwab, 2016) as well as workforce across organizations and industries which is poised to have a significant impact on the employment landscape in the coming years. Mintzberg (2009) has pointed to the need to rethink organisations for our times, more as communities of human beings than as individual human resources. Not only is knowledge at the core, but …show more content…
Termed as ‘The New Digital Age’, Schmidt & Cohen (2013) portray how the internet is set to transform individuals, organisations and the society at large. Not only is technology playing an increasing part in the way that we live our lives, the latest generation to have entered the workforce (often labelled Generation Y,the Millennials, or the Digital Natives) are living their lives in a very different way from before, and displaying a different attitude to leadership. Significantly, the digital workplace today is networked and networks enhance new possibilities for widely distributed leadership across the organization, enhancing responsiveness and …show more content…
Traditionally, Digital refers to something using digits, particularly binary digits (Wikipedia) which originated with Leibniz’s work on the binary number system in 1703 and extended by Boole (1854), Shannon (1938) and Stibitz (1940). Though the term digitalization is not yet commonly found in English dictionaries and is in use mainly in Europe (Khan, 2016). The Marriam Webster dictionary simply puts digital as showing the time with numbers instead of with hour and minute hands, of or relating to information that is stored in the form of the numbers 0 and 1, using or characterized by computer technology. The Oxford dictionary indicates involving or relating to the use of computer technology: the digital revolution. Wikipedia extends this by defining digital transformation as the changes associated with the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society. In contrast, Mckinsey(2015) believes that digital should be seen less as a thing and more a way of doing things, essentially around creating value at the new frontiers of the business world, generating value in the processes that execute a vision of customer experiences and building foundational capabilities that support the entire structure. Although there are
As the phenomenon of the Internet becomes more accessible to most groups of people, it has been seen as both appreciation and criticism. In "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" by Nicholas Carr argues that the way we think and the style of reading has changed because the Internet is easy to use. In the article “Small Change,” Malcolm Gladwell discusses the pros and cons of social media on activism in modern times as compared through activism in the 1960’s. In Douglas Rushkoff’s documentary “Generation Like,” we gain a deeper understanding of how companies are increasingly working to target and exploit a teen’s quest for identity by empowering them thorough social media. In this paper I will explain how the Internet and social media have influenced
The digital age has skyrocketed in the last couple of years, some were born into it and most witnessed it. These people had to adapt and use it to their advantage in the evolving workforce. After time went on, they integrated their methods into their systems and kept old habits. Years later, the kids born into this age started to join in and bring their new habits that were unfamiliar to the current workforce. The article written by Lee Rainie on his Pew-Research webpage in 2006, "Digital Natives Invade the Workspace" analyzes the changes they brought it.

In “The Tethered Generation” by Kathryn Tyler, Tyler addresses the effects technology has had on Generation Y with their relationship with their parents, professors, and their co-workers. Tyler focuses on the use of the three appeal, ethos, pathos, and logos as methods
But it is certainly not the only one. Being knowledgeable of the situation at hand is also very important. Like bravery, knowledge is a crucial trait to possess in the event your plans go awry. Knowledge can mean one’s mental strength is just as great as his or her physical strength. In Castaway, Chuck Noland was stranded on an island after a plane crash.
Researchers have found that an overwhelming amount of young people have an online presence. In society today, technology is becoming more and more accessible no matter what age. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and “Taking Multitasking to Task” by Mark Harris, both authors portray the idea of technology ruling the lives of generations to come. Harris’s opinion on technology taking over is correct because more and more people at younger and younger ages are dependent upon it.
The search for knowledge is arduous, to utilize knowledge wisely can be blessings, but
A millennial is the title of anyone who is born after 1984. The author, Simon Sinek, is not a millennial, but does express his opinion in his informal lecture, “Millennials in the Workplace.” Sinek argues that all of the millennial’s issues stem from bad parenting, technology, impatience, and the environment and their long lasting effect the workplace. The only way to resolve the problem is to have corporate environments take responsibility and train the new employees to their standards. It is reasonable to agree with a majority of Sinek’s argument, but a corporation does not need to overcompensate; it is best to give millennials a push in the right direction and let them experience the world with the proper tools and skills necessary.
The ways in which diversity can impact on work and work relationships: Cultural diversity can affect the workplace in numerous ways. Negative impacts can include miscommunication, creation of barriers, and dysfunctional adaptation behaviors. Positive impacts can include building a sound knowledge base fellow colleagues, which can make for smoother integration of the organization into foreign cultures. Many organizations have recognized that the workforce is changing and they are working to create a work environment in which diversity and difference are valued and in which employees can work to their fullest. They are dealing with the problems that arise when people in the workplace communicate.
The twenty-first century is known by many different names: The Common Era, The Era of Technology, The Knowledge Era, etc. Regardless of the diversity in epithets, they all highlight a higher standard of intelligence and common sense that are possessed by the people living in this time. These people are raised to adapt to a technological and innovative lifestyle. Yet, all of the conveniences granted by the Internet and social media are gradually showing “symptoms” of negative effects. As technology becomes more advanced, people have high expectations for it.
The increased complexity of modern day organisations
Because of this fact, knowledge can be seen as a vital quality to
Digital architecture involves the use of computer modelling, programming, simulation and imaging to create both virtual forms and physical structures. The ways in which architecture is formed, created, presented, and marketed is transforming – in relation to the transition to a digital society. Digital architecture allows complex calculations that delimit architects and allow a diverse range of complex forms to be created with great ease using computer algorithms. Architecture created digitally might not involve the use of actual materials (brick, stone, glass, steel, wood).
1. Introduction The internet supports a global ecosystem of social interaction. Modern life revolves around the network, with its status updates, news feeds, comment chains, political advocacy, omnipresent reviews, rankings and ratings. For its first few decades, this connected world was idealized as an unfettered civic forum: a space where disparate views, ideas and conversations could constructively converge.
Most people today, own one at least one technological device which could be one of the access platforms that form online channels the company may apply for their digital marketing to achieve profitability and retention of customers.
