Telescope is a tool that allows people to see objects from far away, beyond human vision, this helps a lot in researching for scientists, especially for astronomers to discover new stars, planets and galaxies. The first known telescope was introduced in 1608 by Hans Lippershey. Telescopes are an amazing tool, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with just a 15cm-long telescope, we can see a penny from 55m away or the world’s biggest refracting telescope at the University of Chicago’s Yeker Observatory has up to 1m lenses so we can unlock the secrets of the universe. There are 2 types of telescope, refracting telescope and reflecting telescope, but today, we are focusing on refracting telescope.

But, why does it bend, we all know that light can’t be bent in normal situation and light speed in vacuum is c~ 3.0*108 m/s. We also know that different mediums have different density, the more dense, the slower the light speed. Now imagine you and your friend are in the beach and you guys decide to swim all together, so you guys link arms, you are the closest person to the sea and approach the water in a very strong and straight lines, and the moment you reach the water, you realise that it is harder to walk in the water so you slow down and approach the water with an angle relative to the shoreline. You are the first person to slow down as you reach the shore line first while others still remain their velocity because they are still on the shore. It’s no surprise that the government keeps secrets away from the American people, right? What if I told you that one of those secrets led up to over 190,000 deaths of fairly if not completely innocent people? Because that is exactly what happened as a result of the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan project was a huge research conducted by scientists and physicists alike to create what would soon be the world’s first atomic bomb. Not only one of the world’s first atomic bombs, but definitely a huge turning point in history, causing bucketloads of death and destruction.

“Our stance is not against science. It’s not against the [telescope] itself, It’s against their choice of place,” Lanakila Managauil argued. The Thirty-Meter Telescope, or TMT, is planned to be built on top of Mauna Kea and is going to be used for space research (TMT.org). But, Native Hawaiians protested this telescope being built for many suitable reasons. This telescope should not be built because of the excessive funds, telescopes have already been built on the mountain, and Mauna Kea is sacred land to the Native Hawaiians.
One form of technology that was developed was the Astrolabe. “The Mariner’s Astrolabe was used to determine the latitude of a ship at sea.” (Doc2.) Another form of technology were the caravels. Caravels were small ships that can go faster and they were closer to shore.
The individuals in this world are foolish to intuit hate for each other, for one way or another, we are all connected. The reason for this connectivity is the fault of passing or racial ambiguity. Passing is where an individual from one race is accepted into another based off of their appearance. Examples from: the film titled Little White Lie, a guest speaker named Rebecca Campbell, and the novel by J. Imagine that you are walking when suddenly you come across a twenty-foot wall in the middle of your path. It is made of steel and concrete with security cameras perched along the top. You look at it and realize that there is not a way for you to cross this wall, so you turn around and head back in the direction that you came, back to the job and the life you know. On the other side of the wall a similar person approaches, but then turns away and goes back to their life. Neither one of you comes into contact with the other but you go back to the life you know, not interrupting or endangering the other’s life.

Advertisements can get old very quickly; they are usually repetitive, boring, and a waste of everyone’s time. People are getting better at ignoring advertisement, but occasionally, some brilliant advisement can be stuck in one’s head. One advertisement for Orion Telescopes was particularly interesting. With just three images, the moon, the American flag, and the Made in China on the flag, it captured the capability of their product and added an ironic twist at the end. The simplistic design, the clear message, and the interesting layout works great together to promote their telescope, and intrigue their American consumer.
