Television is a popular medium of communication and entertainment dating back since in the early 1900. Can you imagine now in the postmodern century, almost each and every household, whether rich or poor? On this planet owns a television set. Numerous studies have been done in the world on the number of households that owns a television. One such study to attest to this was conducted in the United States of America by Neilson Company (2013) reported that over 96.7% of American owns a television set. It has been said that television has little real educational value and I strongly agree with this statement. Most of the channels streams on a television is based on entertainment and reality shows such as VH1, MTV, FOX, SYFY and HBO just to name a few. These channels offer no form of educational learning, instead they teach our youth’s vague values, for example, in the reality T.V series Love & Hip Hop which is based on getting rich fast, fighting among each other, along with violence to resolve matters and the use of profanity. Children being exposed to these reality shows want to live just like these stars from a tender age, so they do whatever it takes to get there even if it means to rob and kill (For example in the movie ‘set it off’). Ironically, every household has a television set in their home, which the family consumes hours watching. Whereas, one study reported by Kolata (2002) stated that children who watched more than one hour of television daily commit violent crimes and engage in other forms of aggressive behaviour. Sharing this view was Mestel (2002) who further suggested that both sexes involve in violent and aggressive behaviour. Additionally, in a study done by Huesmann, Moise-Titus, Podolski & Eron (2003) suggested that children who are exposed to early television violence emulates the characters in society because they wanted to be just like them.
