Something to change about America... If I had to make up one law that every American had to follow I would not make one up. I would not make up a law because since we already have basic rules to not infringe on anyone’s rights I feel like any rule that I would make up would violate someone’s agency. If I did make a rule though I feel like there would still be protests about how it should not be a law. The 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, once stated, “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.” America does need to work on being the “best country in the world”, but it does have some good things going for it like the freedom of speech and to protest.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech”. Some people in today’s time would argue the first amendment is one of the most important listed in the Bill of Rights. Many forms of speech are protected by the first amendment that one wouldn’t think would be such as flag burning and “adult videos”. Over the years there have been many different court cases that have debated and fought the forms of speech that are protected. Many people in society treat speech differently and this is given in the United States because there are such diverse groups throughout the nation.
They want this so they can’t be stopped if they want to take all the power. This wouldn 't happen immediately but it is a stepping stone to a lot of government control over people. If the government gets too much power, it could lead to loss of a lot things that make the U.S. the best place to be like freedom of speech and expression because someone wants to much
The thing that confuses me the most is that the people from The Civil Rights Movement fought so hard for equal voting rights, but the modern American citizens’ still don’t try to vote even though now all the citizens’ can vote. If we are given a right that people died for, then we should take a stand and vote, so that elections can be fair. Americans’ should vote to voice their opinion on important matter to move the country forward. Voting have to be mandatory for all citizen. There should be an equal participation
In my own personal experience, I was so focused to try to assist my father to obtain his legal status, I did not take into consideration the expectation. While part of the process is to pass a civil test, it is not explained the reason behind the exam. I understand the idea of knowing the history of the US is to build stronger ties to this country, I strongly believe the expectation is not set for new citizens. Many of the people that become citizens are only aware of the voting rights. They are not aware of the military service they could be required to serve, or they would be require to serve as a jury.
Last but not least being American means freedom, Americans are born with rights; Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and so much more. Lately this has been causing controversy, especially among the sports industry, focused mainly on the NFL. There has been many recent cases of players “taking a knee” during our country 's national anthem, now while others and myself do not fully agree with this, it is non-American to disrespect their right to freedom of speech. Many believe that there are other ways to approach this situation, and that the current route taken by the players is disrespectful to the country and families who have protected our country. American is about freedom and the amendments protect that.
I believe that liberty and equality for all will always be important, but not just to the American society, but to all people. Every individual across the world deserves equality and liberty because they are basic human rights. I do believe that liberty and equality was more important in the past only because so many more people have been able to achieve it since then. If Abraham Lincoln hadn 't worked hard to present these ideals to the American culture, we would be living in a very different world. A world where women would be deprived of basic rights, and where children 's education would not mean as much as it does today.
First Amendment- freedom of speech The first amendment which states that all citizens have freedom of speech was adopted on December 15, 1791. This amendment was created because when America was beginning to establish itself the citizens demanded a guaranteed protection of their basic rights. This amendment is necessary because it grants citizens the right to express their opinions publicly without any governmental interference. Also without this amendment we couldn’t have any newspapers or magazines that express other 's opinions and we would not be able to speak poorly of the government or anything like that without getting into some type of trouble. Freedom of speech is one of the favorite freedoms of U.S. citizens and without it there
In The United States the first Amendment to the Constitution guarantees us certain freedoms. Our Constitution gives us the freedom of Religion, Career, and Speech and for me the most significant is the right to vote for President. I see freedom as the ability for each person to make decisions on daily life without restraint. Freedom is an extremely difficult word to describe because it means so many thing to so many different people, But freedom is something everyone wants but not everyone can have. Freedom is something this country fought to deserve and that is something no other nations can say.
Living in America is a privilege that most people take for granted. But just because a person lives in the country, doesn 't mean they do not have to do anything to help out. Without the help of Americans doing their part, the country would not be successful. There are certain ways for one to contribute to make America the most civilized country. To start off, it is important to be a good citizen.
