Commonly taught under social sciences or liberal arts, the humanities is described as the study of the form and process of the human life and experience (“What are the humanities?”, n.d.). The humanities are undeniably essential in sustaining the culture and identity of the entire human race. This is evident in the disciplines of art, literature, philosophy, religion, history, music, and language.

Jacques Barzun is a French- American historian who wrote about a plethora of subjects related to cultural history and history of ideas. And in his piece “The Misbehavioral Sciences”, he discussed how the humanities should be renamed as the misbehavioral sciences for two simple reasons. First, the people are well aware of what the sciences are; and even though the humanities have existed for nearly 3000 years, yet even so, people are still confused and ill-informed as to what the humanities really ought to be. The second reason why Jacques Barzun would like to change the name of the humanities to misbehavioral sciences simply because of the fact that the humanities do not conform to any particular behavior. …show more content…
