Although there is some dispute on who was responsible for coming up with the optical microscope, it is widely believed that it was invented by a Dutch man named Antonie van Leeuwenhoek ( ). An embryo is a mass of cells that later develops into a fetus after cell division, this was only discovered by scientists after the study of it under the optical microscope. An embryo is a mass of cells that develops into a zygote just before it goes into the fetal stage. The study of embryos led to the discovery of cell division and how the fetus is formed from this process. This was not only a huge discovery in the scientific community but it also played a significant role on the way society viewed reproduction. For years many people had no idea about the biological explanation behind the reproduction process. Most people in the society thought of reproduction as a blessing or miracle from God, this was because science was still being discovered and so the society relied heavily on religious scriptures such as the Bible to give explanations on things that had no scientific knowledge on.
