Introduction
Shipping industry employs thousands of Filipino seafarers dispersed around the globe that contribute to both world and local economies. Filipinos comprise the majority of the world population of seafarers. The Philippines and the Filipino people has been the top choice of foreign ship owners for selection of crew members in manning their ships. Filipino seafarers are known for being hard working, perseverant, and loyal that is why foreign ship owners resort to the Philippines for their crewing needs.
Majority of the goods and commodities are transported by enormous ships into the hands of consumers around the globe. These ships move everything from crude oil to refineries, product oils to the markets, crops harvested from distant continent bound to the other, electronics, automobiles, and livestock the list is endless. The importance of the shipping industry’s role in the global economy is undeniably great, it acts as the engines that makes movement possible and the pillar that holds the roofs and the walls of the structure, without it the world economy would simply collapse (Sekimizu, 2015).
Work as a seafarer is generally perceived as a rewarding profession, being paid with thousands of dollars while seeing the countries
There was a lag of the shipping cycle in responding to the wider economy. Electronics and textiles at Chinese factories piled up since the European and US consumption declined. Ships sailed half empty, if at all and shipping companies began pulling vessels out of the liner markets since demand was low. The shipping industry came to an unexpected halt and ship owners and managers argued that this was normal and typical for such an industry. The conditions the industry faced was unprecedented and based on: 1.
During the Triangular Trade, natural resources, goods, crops, and slaves were trade to the New World (Americas). Middle Passage was a stage of the Triangular Trade where millions of African slaves were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Islands (West Indies) and North and South America. The slaves weren’t treated fairly and in fact they were exploited. They were abused, whipped, and harmed by the Spaniards.
Sailing the deep blue from coast to coast, dealing with illnesses that were thrown their way, fighting off intimidating savages, spreading the gospel, and forming new settlements that developed new freedoms for their colonists to live under were all breathtaking challenges John Smith and William Bradford overcame on their quest to settle new land. Never did they know that their documentations of these experiences would still be read 400 years later; and never the less one of them to be made into a Disney children’s movie! The ambition and determination that both of these men showed was the very beginning of the country that we know as the Land of the Free. John Smith and William Bradford shared some similarities in their writings, but the
Every year, Americans across the country gather to celebrate their independence and freedom from the British government. On July 4th, 1776, America officially declared their independance from England, and the American people would be free from British tyranny. In the beginning, the Colonists did not want to be independant from the British Government, and were happily living in America and making money and embracing their freedoms(Notes Cite). However, the British government began to take away their freedoms and their rights by using taxes and implementing acts that upset the Colonists(Notes Cites). The colonists came to America to free themselves from persecution in Britain, and to start over and create a better life for themselves. In the
Written by Tania Vela Transportation Law Professor Melasky October 26, 2015 The Shipping Act of 1984 The United States Shipping Act of 1984 describes the law covering water transportation in the US foreign trade. The bill was later amended by the Shipping Act of 1998 but it still contains current regulations and is an important part of current shipping.
Indian Ocean Trade: The Indian Ocean trade routes ran through Southeast Asia, India, Arabia, and East Africa. During the classical era it involved the Mauryan Empire, the Han Dynasty, and the Achaemenid Empire. Coastal areas used dhows, a type of boat, to maneuver the seasonal monsoon winds, and after the domestication of camels trade goods such as silk, porcelain, spices, slaves, incense and ivory became popular. The Indian Ocean trade routes also influenced the spread of religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. Silk Road: The Silk Road was established in the Han Dynasty of China.
In the 18th century, there was the Atlantic Triangular Trade. This trading route involved Africa, Europe and the Americas trading back and forth to each other, which essentially formed a triangle (hence the name). Between Africa and North America, slaves, meat, fish, lumber, rum and grain went to and fro. Africa sold it's people into slavery in return for said goods. To America, this was an admirable trade.
Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats is about the Gary Paulsen’s life on the sea. In this book he talks about his main voyage. Mr. Paulsen just got out of the army and had nothing to do and nowhere to be. For some reason he wanted to go see the beach so bad that he felt like he was going to die.
The rapid expansion of the railroad in the Midwest, during the late 1800s, was plagued with corruption and greed leaving the American farmers at the mercy of the railroad industry. In the years following the Civil War, the nation saw a boom in the agricultural and the railroad industries. American farmers were trying to prosper in the Midwest and the railroad industry was in steady progress to conquer the nation by rail service. The nonexistence of regulation and oversight over the railroad companies opened the door for businessmen and politicians to make a great deal of money. The American farmers saw major rate fluctuations in shipping cost for their products when moving it by rail service to the markets.
In our society, most of the time people would love to have attention and services pampered constantly but this is not something that people will receive every day. In Shipping out by David Foster Wallace, the reactor is being addressed by the idea of being overly pampered. You may have guessed by reading the subtitle that it is “on the (nearly lethal) comforts of a luxury cruise,” in the Caribbean, but the level of dangerousness cannot be determined until the reader has seen through Wallace's eyes. In David Foster Wallace essay he uses high sarcastic tone to express his fills about the trip.
Two questions that emerge from Amy’s analysis are the following: How did literature describe the shipping industry and shipping disasters
The company of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. operates diverse itineraries around the world that call on approximately 535 destinations on all seven continents. According to iRami (2012) stated that the shipping plays an important role in world trade which is the backbone of the world economy. Recently, without these boats and vessels provide transportation services, many countries will be unable to participate in world trade and will not be as prosperous. From centuries past, the sea has always been important to all country at the world which as an important factor of economic development of every maritime country. The maritime sector contributes significantly to the economic development. Underling this is the fact that 95% of the country international trade is carried in whole or in part by maritime transport.
INTRODUCTION We belong in a time where the world goes through constant changes. Life today is so fast-paced and dynamic that we sometimes knowingly ignore what 's happening around us since it may instantly change anyway. The Philippines specifically, have gone through great changes in the past several years. These changes have rooted from problems that made it impossible for us to develop and progress as a country.
