3.6 Management team and staff
The success of a company largely depends on the management team’s ability to efficiently coordinate various internal and external factors affecting the company’s operations. A successful manager in the hospitality industry has a very responsible role which is wide and varied, therefore they have to exhibit many skills. According to Barrows et al. (2012) there are three general kinds in hospitality objectives with which management must be concerned:
• a manager wants to make the guest feel welcome;
• a manager wants to make things work for the guest;
• a manager wants to make sure that the operation will continue to provide service while also making a profit (Barrows, Powers, & Reynolds, 2012).

Through the years there have been numerous attempts to draft and implement various tourism development strategies. Additionally, recent policy reforms in areas such as bureaucratic procedures, taxation, and privatization have helped the Government in creating environment for local tourism business to grow and to attract foreign investors in the Macedonian tourism sector in order to further develop tourism in Macedonia. The National Tourism Development Strategy 2009-2013 (The National Tourism Development Strategy 2009-2013, 2009) was aimed to provide the necessary framework and trust of existing stakeholder, foreign and domestic investors, as well as international donor agencies to commit to tourism in the country. Furthermore, this framework should have built an image of the country as a prime European destination for environmentally enriched culture and nature-based tourism, in order to become recognized for its high quality and sustainable product and services developed in line with global best practice. Regarding taxation, in 2011 the Government reduced the rate of VAT applicable to tourist services and accommodation from 18% to 5%. The main sectors of the Macedonian economy are services (more than 50% of GDP) and industry (30% of GDP). The textile sector is indicated as the main source of foreign trade with more than 50% of the total exports. Given the expenditures, the household consumption is seen as the main contributor of the GDP with roughly 70% of its total use. The exports of goods and service are accounted at roughly 48% while the imports at 65%, which implicates a subtraction of 17% of total GDP.
The impacts of the tourism, as an economic branch, on the GDP of Macedonia were considered in details in chapter 3.2.1. Namely, the direct contribution of tourism to GDP in 2015 was MKD8.4bn (1.5% of total GDP), and it is expected to rise by 3.6% in 2016 and by 4.7% per year to MKD13.7bn (1.8% of total GDP) in 2026.
