Humans never have just one role in life. They fill many different purposes throughout their days and take on many different positions. I am no exception. In a world of craziness and heavy expectations, people can easily get consumed by the demands of these roles and forget who they are. In order to balance their many different positions, people must maintain and cultivate values that allow them to keep their identity and not compromise to demands. My roles occasionally become overwhelming, but having concrete values to remind me who I am always keeps me grounded. Without my cornerstone values, I would not be who I am or where I am today.

My ability to self-manage and maintain my identity amidst these different demands stems from the values that have been instilled in me by my family and through my experiences. Love is the foundation of all my values, as it sets the tone for who I am and who I strive to be. Love helps me freely serve and coincides with giving me a humble and gracious heart. My parents taught me to love unconditionally through their steady example of loving each other and me. They also taught me empathy and compassion for other people. They continually remind me that I fail to know everyone’s story and must act accordingly. By valuing empathy, I understand that everyone is a Child of God and therefore, I need to act as Jesus has and be careful and gentle with them. My parents also instilled gratitude in my values, as I see them appreciate everything that others do for them, and as I look at what they have done for me. They sacrifice a lot to be my parents and to give me a life of comfort, and for that, I will always be grateful to them and to others around
