Yoga is not a mere exercise regime , but is a philosophy of life based on certain psychological facts aiming to develop a perfect balance between the body and the mind . It is the experience of complete peace of mind and self-knowledge. It is said that yoga helps us perceive the subtle realities of life, illuminating our existence and moral sense. Today, yoga is treated as the highest physical science as well as a part of spiritual science. It shows us the secrets of nature that lead to a spiritual life.

It shows us to exercise self-control and preserve a positive attitude towards life. The exponents of yoga believe that meditation, a noble form of yoga , generates purity of body and mind, contentment, self-discipline and austerity. Meditation means concentration of mind on an outer or inner object which eliminates distractions, and the stream of thought flows in a single direction without interruption towards a definite goal. Meditation helps us to rid ourselves of emotional conflicts and psychological tensions. Hence, there is no iota of doubt that yoga certainly contributes to a happy and disciplined life. I believe, yoga, particularly, meditation is tremendously beneficial for us the students, because, research on yoga has revealed that it sharpens the memory and helps to concentrate in our studies. Pranayama, another manifestation of yoga, is equally useful to all human beings. The Sanskrit word Prana means ‘vital force’ or ‘cosmic energy’. It governs the sense organs and helps to control Kama ( Desire & Lust), Krodha ( Anger), Lobha ( Greed), Moha ( Delusion), Madha ( Egotistic tendencies) and Matsarya ( Jealousy). All the actions of yoga lead happy and discipline to one’s life, influences a person to think positively and do good to his life and his family and the society. On the other hand, practicing yoga for many years cultivate some of our divine qualities such as devotion, love, compassion, and peace. There are time schedule as well as length of time for performing the meditations, pranayam and asanas. For example, Surya Namaskar, a set of 12 powerful yoga asana , is best done early morning on an empty stomach and needs to be practiced 6 rounds at a time in a day and the rounds can be increased gradually and steadily in course of time. However, one should never go beyond one’s capacity. Similarly, Padmasana is to be done 5 seconds, and 10 seconds per week can be added until 3 minutes. Such time frame generates punctuality and one has to adhere time schedule at his other household chores and his profession as well to undergo the routine of yoga rigorously.
