Drug addiction affects millions worldwide, and the harmful stereotypes associated with it have always existed. In Randy Ribays Patron Saints of Nothing, we explore stigmas associated with drug usage, revealing the poverty which leads to addiction and selling, resulting in harmful stereotypes challenged by the experiences and beliefs of Jun. It’s seen that because of the issues in the Philippines around poverty, drugs provide a way for some to deal with pain and hunger. The drug war in the Philippines has killed thousands suspected of drug usage to make the country a "safer" place. Drug addicts fit harmful stereotypes surrounding drugs and get murdered because of it.
Besides, addiction is a treatable disease and he also states his idea about how to solve it. Therefore both of the authors express the worry to drug problem in
Throughout the last few years a very dangerous drug has burst into mainstream attention, heroin. All throughout the country, there are numerous people suffering from addiction to the drug, and even dying. Heroin is a highly addictive drug that is relatively cheap and in many places, easy to find. In many big cities, it seems that almost everyone knows someone who has been on heroin, or a mutual acquaintance of a user. Numerous organizations have their opinions on how to stop the epidemic from spreading before it reaches an even vaster number of people.
Taking the British case, Pearson (1987b) observes how the unprecedented heroin “epidemic” there in the early 1980s would simply not have been possible without the opening up at that time of new trafficking routes from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Similarly, Parker notes that the second wave of heroin “outbreaks” that occurred a decade later in the mid-1990s was underpinned by the increasing availability of the drug in Britain which was, in turn, facilitated and enabled by the same mechanisms and systems for trade that were associated with the development of an effective global economy (Parkeret al., 1998, pp. 46-50). In other words, the globalization of trade
Thank you for an informative paper. What troubles me about methadone treatment is how it is a substitute for another narcotic. It is sad about heroin addicts that do not want to get off their narcotic dependence. However, I do not feel that methadone is the answer because it is replacing one narcotic for another; although they have less craving.
Arrest Process (Kevin Michael O’Brian) One of the biggest and most strenuous problems our society faces today is the use and abuse of narcotics. Not only is this an epidemic, but it is one of the hardest things to prevent and regulate. The data shows that not only does drug use result in crime, but a staggering 17% of all state prisoners admitted to committing their crime to obtain drugs. You can see why this is a huge issue in today’s society. Not only are people stealing from their own family members in order to feed their addiction, but they are also wasting tax payer’s money by constantly sitting in prison for committing said crimes.
Lives are dramatically impacted by this issue. Addiction to any substance is very powerful, with many ending up jobless, homeless, or in debt to pursue their addiction. Stronger addiction has the power to do this as the substance is of higher necessity than basic survival, such as food and shelter. It is extremely easy to gain access to drugs, with many prescription drugs often being sold for profit. The manufacturing of illegal drugs has also grown in recent decades.
Implementation of some of these proposals may require some economic input and also rely on political goodwill. The principles involved, however - integrity, honesty, ethics, morality, and lawfulness - apply to all cultures, even though they may not present in all cultures. These solutions cannot work without the support of the society as a whole. The shift from the previous zero tolerance that threw drug addicts to prison has softened. Growing number of people are recognizing the need for treating drug addiction as a disease and not a crime.
Addiction and drug abuse is used as a way to escape the harsh problems in society.
Shokran for updating us on your situation with your mother-in-law. It sounds as if she is continuing to overstep boundaries and has not calmed down with her insensitive remarks. The comment about the medication being being methadone is certainly a strange way to try to be humorous. I think at that point sister I would have also been shocked and ask her why would she say that. Often times people have strange senses of humor, depending on the lives they have lived, experiences they went through and how they were raised as well.

Drug Trafficking has been a widely discussed issue that has been persistently reinforced and resonated in every part of the world. This highly reviled universal ill is one of the popularly organized and one of the most productive criminal flow that has given way to a chain of intense offences. However, from a decade, The International community has been globally at war and has polarized the criminal justice and security of each nation state in contradiction to reducing demand and harm. Irrespective of where one stands on this gamut, the issue has been perniciously embryonic menace with undermining governance, human security and resourced violent criminal group(s) across the globe.
But it's true that poverty is one of the main reasons. Obviously, the governments could try to improve the economic conditions of the country. I have seen many cases with my own eyes, where they mixed up food with other harmful substances since they couldn't afford supplying the pure food. Media has raided on them, but it's pointless, because more than half the country’s businesses are doing so. People start selling illegal drugs to make some money when they lose hopes from all other jobs.
