The Jerry Sandusky Trial

The internal stakeholders in the Sandusky scandal would include Penn State University faculty, Penn State football coaches, and Penn State football players. Crandall, W., Parnell, J. & Spillan, J. (2013), explained how these internal stakeholders were affected. Four members of the faculty were either fired or forced out because of the scandal. Legendary football coach Joe Paterno was one of those who was fired, which shook up the coaching staff. The football players were unfairly penalized by the sanctions that were placed on the team. Most of these young men had their dreams of playing for a national championship squashed by the actions of others.

If ever there was a botched case it was this one with inconsistencies on the part of the State being overwhelming. I watched this trial intently and read everything available. The verdict in this case generated an epidemic of outrage throughout the world. I agree with the not-guilty verdict on the murder one and two charges; however, the evidence is not as incontrovertible as some have suggested. I also agree that there was some mischaracterization around the 31 days; yet, to trivialize this behavior as simply immature is inaccurate.

JonBenet Ramsey who was a young loving beauty queen of Colorado, who’s live was taken way too early. JonBenet was murdered in her home in Boulder Colorado on December 26, 1996 at the age of six. After completing my research, I was able to make a prediction of who I believed murdered the incent child, and it did not take much research to see the mistakes made by the Boulder Police Department.

The Scottsboro boys trial and the Tom Robinson trial in To Kill a Mockingbird are similar for these reasons. Mayella Ewell represents Victoria Price and Ruby Bates because Mayella made the crowd fell bad for her because she was a white, shy, and an unstable women. I think Lee kept these details the same because in the Scottsboro trial Price and Bates were the ones “raped”, and in the Robinson trial Mayella was the one “raped”. As I said Price and Bates are being represented by Mayella in the Robinson trial. Another similarity was that both trails were about rape. I think Lee made Robinsons trail about rape also because when she was little this trail was happening around her, the trail had an impact in her life, which later came upon her book.

As we mentioned earlier, the freshman’s mother mentioned to coach McElroy the fact that the upperclassman was calling her son those insulting names. This incident could have been foreseeable by the coaches, and possibly the administration, if the coach reported anything to the principal and athletic director. The Mepham High School football season was eventually cancelled and the three upperclassman were charged with “involuntary deviate sexual intercourse,” “aggravated assault,” “kidnapping,” “unlawful restraint,” “false imprisonment,” “terroristic threats,” “criminal coercion,” “simple assault,” “reckless endangering of another person,” “ethnic intimidation,” and “criminal conspiracy.” Judge Robert J. Conway chose to try the accused as juveniles.

In the January 29, The Stanford Daily editorial Stanford, California, it debates the different essential of the principle of morality and identified Brock Turner had applied a use of force in raping an unconscious woman behind the dumpster. Furthermore, the young man attended Stanford University and participated in his college swim team dreamt of partaking in the Olympus. The victim heartfelt statement during the trial is disregarded because he comes from a class of privilege and is a man. Not to mention, Brock Turner’s father wrote a letter to expressing the universalizability to court saying, “my son’s life shouldn’t be ruined over 20 minutes of action (Dreher,Rod).” Therefore, Aaron Persky who is a California judge implemented an ethical decision that contemplated the clarity around both the specific choice and decision then declared a six months sentenced ruling. This appalling situation of the court system left many people uneasy especially the victim and he only has to serve no more than three months of his time get out on good behavior. They were not punished after brutally beating an African American citizen after a meer traffic stop. This brutal act of racial profiling was forgiven in the name of systemic bias and societal attitudes towards racism and similar issues. The date in question is the day that the verdict of the Rodney King trial was released by the jury. The trial involved Rodney G. King a taxi driver who was pulled over for a traffic violation. High profile court cases have been getting increasingly popular as time goes on. Court cases like the Casey Anthony and Scott Peterson trials are media dynamite. Although the media is legally allowed to be a part of these court proceedings, they still cause drama and stipulations that many feel would not be a factor if their presence were withdrawn. Notoriety, or being famous for bad deeds, is a characteristic engulfing many of Hollywood’s elite personnel; for this reason, many high profile cases have become even more of a media magnet. The court system is made up of many operational parts that all work together to achieve an overall goal. For my courtroom observation I have chosen the State of Florida v Casey Marie Anthony trial. This trail took place on the 23rd floor of the Orange county courtroom in Florida which seats about 50 people. Casey Marie Anthony (the defendant) is on trial for the death of her two-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony. She is being tried for first degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to police. Around two months after being indicted on those charge’s police found Caylee Anthony body in a wooded area near her mother’s home.

On November 4, 2011 there was a grand jury report released with testimonies stating that Penn State’s Defensive Coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, had been involved in the sexual assault of at least eight different young juvenile males over a period of approximately 15 years that spanned from 1994 to 2009. There were also allegations that leading officials of Penn State failed to notify law enforcement after learning that some of the incidents had taken place (Viera, M. 2011). Here, Jerry Sandusky was an assistant coach at Penn State for years, under the leadership of Joe Paterno the founder of Second Mile. This organization helps disadvantaged children. Jerry seems to be a model citizen within the community. Jerry Sandusky was a serial child rapist, it’s hard to understand that no one knew of his insignificant behavior. Furthermore, in Penn State University there were people in high place that know about Sandusky behavior and did nothing. Nevertheless, the President, Graham B. Spanier and Vice President Gary C. Schultz and Athletic Director T. M. Curley with other cover Sandusky behavior form Board of Trustees. Consequently, the community or authorities had no idea this was taking place at Penn State University.

The reason O.J. was found not guilty of murder and acquitted in criminal court, but found guilty of the tort of harm and ordered to pay damages in the civil court lies in the structure of our legal system, in regards to criminal cases and civil cases. The distinct difference between criminal cases and civil cases provides further explanation regarding the O.J. Simpson case. Criminal cases deal with crimes against society. It is the government, not the victim, who brings action against the charged individual. In criminal cases, the penalties can include a number things including jail time.
