Chapter 1 Summary: In the first chapter, we meet Colin Singleton, and we learn how bad his life is right now. When we first meet Colin he is in a tub taking a bath because his number one policy in life is to never do anything standing up that could easily be done sitting down. While Colin is in the tub we learn that he is a child prodigy, and he wants to have a Eureka moment like Archimedes had when he discovered volume could be measured by water displacement. Also, we learn that his 19th girlfriend whose name is Katherine, and all the girls’ names before that was Katherine dumps Colin. After Colin gets out of his bath his parents call him from his room, and he is a little skeptical about this because whenever both of his parents call him it ends up being something bad. Collins mom wants to know where they are going, and why they are going. Collins dad wants Colin to learn another language this summer. Collins dad says that he needs to work harder than ever before or he might be wasting his potential, and Colin says that he has already wasted it. After that his parents couldn’t do anything else but say yes. Now all they have to do is persuade Hassan’s parents, which isn’t any easier, but Colin persuades Hassan’s mom by telling her that they will get jobs. Now they are off on their road trip. While Colin is driving he thinks about how he has only dated girls who name is Katherine, then he thinks back to the very first Katherine, and when his parents realized he was brilliant. Once Collins parents realized he was a prodigy they started making him read many books. For Colin being a know it all wasn’t great for him, because he would always be bullied. Tom and Kylie both react to Daniel’s incident in different ways. This sets them both along the path of depression. During the story, they both deal with their depression in their own ways, as they move to a new town and start a “new” life. Tom responds to the incident, with fear and guilt.
The novel is written on behalf of Tom Brennan, who lives in Mumbilli with his family. Tom is a 17 year old, his life is simple just about Rugby, his brother Daniel, HIS SISTER Kylie .

The character of Lily Owens evolves and changes as any young woman would throughout the course of her life. Lily begins the book as an insecure, detached, and unaware teenage girl. We see how Lily changed into a wise young woman as she solves the mystery of her mother’s life. Towards the end of the book Lily transforms into a young woman who is much more confident, happier, and vicarious. Lily has learned about love and biases.
10/8/15; I just finished the ⅓ of the book. The story starts out with the main character Colin Singleton who is fearing he will not grow to become an adult . After being dumped by his girlfriend, Katherine XIX, Colin is looking for his “missing piece,” longing to feel whole, and longing to matter. In these relationships, Colin remembers only the Katherine dumping him. He hopes to accomplish his goal of becoming a genius by having a “eureka” moment.

But how different can readers truly interpret the text? The initial action has a great hook, the hook occurs when the reader knows that Liam is in the hospital, this raises a lot of questions, why is he injured? How did he get injured? To get all these answers the reader has to continue reading. The rising action of this is story takes place in a flashback, this flashback is about the three weeks leading up to the bear attack. It starts with Gabriella leasing a house, she wants to lease this house so that her and Liam would be able to spend more time together of the winter.
She and her boyfriend, Bob, were fascinated by him and wanted to get to know the young man on a deeper level. However, just because Jan admired McCandless’ dedication, she did not necessarily agree with his actions. She understood how his parents must have felt, because she herself could relate to them. Constantly worrying about their son, wondering if he was okay, was something Jan had to go through every single day. She desperately tried to convince Chris to contact his parents, but was unsuccessful.

Charlie attends the school’s homecoming dance with Patrick and Sam, and afterwards they go to a party. At the party, he is introduced to some of their friends, Mary Elizabeth and Craig (Sam’s boyfriend) being the most important of the group. There are drugs and alcohol at the party, and Charlie is noticeably more talkative after indulging in a pot brownie. He confides in Sam that Michael, his best friend, committed suicide the last spring. Charlie thinks Sam is pretty, but she has a boyfriend so he understands they are only friends.
Through the looking-Glass-started with Alice sitting indoors winding a ball of yarn and playing with kittens and cat. Alice was wondering if Kitten can play chess with her. She pretends that the kitten is the red queen, since it looks a little bit like that piece. Alice imagines that mirror over the fireplace is growing soft like gauze, and discovers that it really is. Within chapter one, Alice had the opportunity to meet Red Queen.

In the novel, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the plot is constructed in a circular structure. The structure of the novel emphasizes how big events can drastically change someone’s life; in addition Hosseini characterizes Amir in a morally ambiguous way, displaying how Amir matures as a person but fail to learn how to stand up for himself. allowing a person like Amir to redeem himself and in many ways fail to learn from his past mistakes. This circular structure of the story provides Amir an opportunity to redeem himself from the selfish and cruel ways he treats Hassan as a child.
