Percy 's tone and attitude is eveident almost immediatly with chapter titles like, "I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom," and "We Get Advice from a Poodle," he brings hilarious sarcasm and a bit of irony into his storytelling; he sets us up with a big declaration and then turns this declaration on its head catching us off guard. Percy is quick to downplay the severity of the matters at hand, instead opting to find the comedy and sarcasm underneath. It 's pretty clear that Percy is not a typical Greek hero in the way that he 's so laid back and nonchalant at times. He even tells us in the beginning of the story, "Look, I didn 't want to be a half-blood" . The life of a hero is not necessarily one that he 's excited about, and his storytelling reflects this . He 's a witty, and matter-of-fact storyteller, telling it like it is as he notices

Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is about the offspring of poseidon and a mortal, going on a quest with his friends to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. The bolt went missing and Percy Jackson is accused of taking it. This is an excellent book that was made into a film. Though the film was good it was very different from the book.
In chapter 9 of Lightning Thief, Percy goes on a quest because Poseidon and Zeus are fighting. Zeus thinks Poseidon stole Zeus's Lightning Bolt. But really Hades the god of the undead, stole the Lightning Bolt. “She … said I would go west and face a god who had turned. I would retrieve what was stolen and see it safely.
“The Lightning Thief” is a current Greek mythology by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson has the characteristics of a Greek hero because he is, after all, a demigod. He goes on an unknown journey after his mother who is captured, retrieve the master bolt and return the helmet back to Hades. As he goes on a journey to complete a heroic quest while on his way he faced a couple challenges along his way to save the world from a horrendous war. Thus, this shows that Percy Jackson is an archetypal hero because he possesses courage and selflessness.
However, he is blessed to have these conditions. His ADHD and ADD help him stay hyperactive in wherever he is. This book was based on Greek Mythology, and there were many wars at that time. Percy is falsely accused for stealing a lightning bolt, and wants to prove that he didn't. Percy Jackson is persevere in many ways.
In the novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief By Rick Riordan, the main character is very caring and persistent. Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old boy and finds out that he is half human, half god. On page 49, the author writes about a conversation between Percy and his mother: “‘Mom, you’re coming too,’ ... ‘He doesn’t want us... he wants you.
Percy has learned his role throughout the story as he journeys to bring back what was taken from his uncle (Zeus) to keep peace in the world. Some challenges was getting to know that he was son of Poseidon, being attacked by the three furies, and being betrayed by the ones he called a true friend to a King Titan
Percy begins to doubt that he is capable of being a hero during the fight between him, Echidna, and Chimera because he feels as if Riptide, his sword, will cause minimal damage, and in this situation he’s not only trying to protect himself. First of all, before going into the elevator his suspicions lowered once Grover reassured him that there were probably no monsters since the smell is similar to that of underground. Once Percy got into the elevator, leaving Annabeth and Grover behind, he didn’t exactly expect the “chihuahua” to be Chimera, or the fat lady to be Echidna. He was baffled and caught in surprise unlike most of the other times where he was with his friends and they could protect each other. No, in this situation it was all on him.
Throughout “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan, the main character Percy Jackson grows in many ways. Through application of Joseph Campbell’s Hero Cycle, Percy’s development as a leader over the course of “The Lightning Thief” can be analyzed (Campbell). Percy is born into the hero’s cycle at his natural birth and his call to adventure is the attack by Mrs. Dodds. Percy crosses the threshold, when he leaves Montauk with his mother and Grover and the first trial testing his leadership is on the bus with the furies. Trials exemplifying Percy’s growth include: the furies, Medusa, the Saint Louis Arch, the “Waterland” Waterpark, the Lotus Hotel, Crusty’s Waterbed Palace, and Hades and the Underworld.
I am comparing Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and Perseus by Ovid and Hesiod. They have many similarities - and differences including their beginnings. They both have the same hero archetypes and more. This makes them very similar stories with the same base structure which could even make Percy Jackson a modernization of Perseus. I will be explaining what is similar and what is different in order to explain why Percy is a modernization of Perseus and to explain why they may have made the large changes when modernizing the story.
