In order to survive people are sometimes capable of doing things that are not as common from day by day. There are many ways we can be successful when trying to persist. The lost boys of Sudan overcame the civil war in Africa by running away and working together; these are things people do to endure just like the lost boys did. The day was silent, the sun was blistering, with the surrounding sound of the shattering bombs, and guns. The lost boys have just run away from heir village in Sudan. Fire surrounded the environment, and sadness as they kept walking, gunfire sounds, creams, and cryings were dribbling. Linda Sue Park guides us through the book A Long Walk to Water about a Sudanese refugee named Salva one of the only Lost Boys of Sudan that survived. Salva fled from his school when the war came to his part of the country. In A Long Walk to Water there were a few factors that made survival possible for Salva, support from loved ones, hope and perseverance, and opportunity. One factor that Salva survive was help and support from loved ones. In the novel Salva was scared and alone without his family after fleeing from school and into the bush.
The attack separates the boys from their families. The group travels through the countryside, between villages, looking for food and shelter. They stay in the village of Kamator for a time until it too is assaulted by the rebels, separating Ishmael from his brother. Ishmael travels alone for a period until he encounters a group of boys also from Mogbwemo. After several weeks of traveling the boys locate the village where their families are, only to arrive as the village is being torched by the RUF.
How Did Salva Survive The War? Did you know that over 20,000 people- mostly kids from the age of 5-10, fled from their hometowns in Sudan in order to go to Ethiopia and Kenya? A Long Walk to Water is about an 11 year old boy, named Salva, who lived in Sudan, until the civil war broke out. He traveled for hundreds of miles on foot.
As well as necessities, the boys are in search to find their families. Along their journey of avoiding contact with the rebels, Junior is permanently separated from Ishmael and Ishmael’s friends die of bad physical and mental health. When the boys finally are about to arrive at the village where their families are, a group of rebels set the village on fire and the village burns before the boys’ eyes. This leaves the kids to have no further hope or purpose to continue on their journey to escape
For example chapter 1 Southern Sudan, 1985, “Stay away from the villages-run into the bush. He went to the door and looked out again. Go! All of you, now!” This shows that war is a huge hardship in southern Sudan by pushing kids out of school because they are endangered.
Perseverance means to keep going despite all the pain and distress that comes along with continuing. Following South Sudan’s first Civil war, the second Sudanese Civil War started in 1983 between the central Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army. This war causes over four million southerners and over four thousand boys, called “The Lost Boys” to move to America. The people who survived, had to persevere in their long, horrendous journey. Throughout the novel A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Salva must overcome many obstacles from the war as he ventures toward safety and eventually, America.
With its ups and downs, you never know what comes next. That is why you must remain aware, remain resilient. For our characters, they learned resiliency the hard way. Through, Faith, Family, and Fear, Rantz and Wiesel realize that the only way to learn how to bounce back is to face tragedy at its worst. Even in the years that follow, tragedy will follow you, so learning how to fight back is something that will help you greatly, in ways you won't even think

This book is an accurate representation of society today because, the characters represent different types of people when an incident involving police brutality occurs. Quinn Collins, acts as if he is too afraid to stand up and doesn 't want to face the truth about what happened,
Actually, the boy were worried that if soldiers came, they would make them fight or would just bomb them by plane. The older boys had to carry the younger children or the sick. Even the small boys needed to do a job to ensure the group safety and life. Dangers were wild animals, poisonous berries and other deadly food, and bomber planes. Even with all of these problems, the group made it to Kenya with less than 300 deaths.
In Linda Sue Park’s novel A Long Walk to Water, demonstrates one of many true stories of many a Lost Boy. Salva an eleven year old had to flee from his village all alone because his village was attacked due to the Second Sudanese War that began in 1983. When Salva was at school and his village was being attacked,he was told not to go home, but into the bush,that's where his whole journey began. Salva had to show confidence, determination,and perseverance in order to survive in a difficult environment.

Similarly in the novel “A Long Walk to Water” a young boy named Salva Mawien is struggling through the tough times of Sudan. As an eleven year old, getting drifted away from his beloved ones in just a matter time, the only answer to survive is to abandon home and flee. A life changing decision which gets him jumbled into more problems.
Since the human race began, we have been discovering ways to expand our lives and survive in the world. We have acquired natural instincts when it comes to surviving. For example, fight or flight is a natural response when we feel threatened by something. The Lost Boys of Sudan are an amazing example of what we would do in order to survive.
In the novel ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman, when you get to be in perspective of Jamal, a young boy living in Afghanistan and the issues he faces as he struggles to get to Australia. In the beginning of the novel, Jamal meets a tank which leads him to think about this ancestors, "I remember what mum told me about her ancestors. Fierce, brave desert warriors, tall and proud in the saddles of their mighty Arab steeds. She also told me about dad 's ancestors, honest hard-working bakers, baking bread so that those fierce warriors had something to mop up their gravy." He says.
Have you ever gone through the desert with only a small gourd of water? Well, the Lost boys of Sudan went through South Sudan to get away from the war, and some other challenges. In the book a Walk to Water Salva and Nya have problems of getting water, but Salva is based on a real person who went through the challenges of losing his family and the brutal Sudanese war. These are some of the challenges he faced and how he solved them with what he had throughout his life. Through harsh challenges Salvas new foster family was always there for him to support and encourage him through tough times.
