Eleanor Schneider 3-3-23 Period 1 Mr. Parsloe Literary Essay The Loving Nisha From The Night Diary In the story The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani, a young girl named Nisha goes through a very rough time having to move away. Nisha finds her voice through her diary and letters to her dead mother. She really wants to know more about her mom, and her nightly letters show that she is eager to stay connected to her. Nisha’s world gets flipped when they are forced to move because of danger in her country due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. Through it all, she continues to write in her diary, but she also finds her voice and is able to grow her family. Nisha has to experience many difficulties, but through all of that, she learns what family truly means. Kazi is hired as a cook for Nisha’s family, and he teaches her that family doesn’t always mean blood-relation. It can mean being close to each other and looking out for each other when they need them the most. Kazi is a constant in Nisha’s life until they are forced from their home. Even though it is their first time meeting each other, Rashid Uncle welcomes them all into his home. He is Nisha’s uncle, but they did not feel like family at first because they didn’t know anything about each other. Using the lessons Kazi taught her, Nisha cooks meals because her uncle isn’t the best cook. At first, when they are cooking together, it is silent. Over time, they become more comfortable with each other and Nisha eventually has the courage to ask him about her mother. Rashid Uncle tells her that she has her mother’s mouth and that her brother has her eyes. He told Nisha, “She loved you both before you were born…” (208). World War II, the second war Hitler was vanquished in but different battles. WWII Hitler decided to kill off all Jewish people, he wanted to wipe out their whole existence. But from all of this destruction came forth a man who was to tell their story, a boy who lost everything to a man who wanted Jewish people dead. Elie Wiesel, was the boy that was there from the start of this war against genocide. Elie have consequently written the book “Night” which tells his tale of the war moreover his survival.

The book Night by Ellie Wiesel, gives the account of a teenage boy going through the horrendous events of the Holocaust with his father by his side, though this is one of the many accounts of the Holocaust it is crucial to society that we learn the lesson behind it. The lesson to learn from this horrifying event, is to accept all humans for who they are and not be prejudice against their religion or race.
