Character Analysis: The Magic School Bus Rides Again

Often times throughout elementary and middle school, my science classes would watch The Magic School Bus. I absolutely loved watching episodes of this show because I thought it was entertaining and educational. When searching for a show to watch for this assignment, I came across the title The Magic School Bus Rides Again. Since I was very intruded and reminded of my childhood, this is the show I chose. The Magic School Bus Rides Again is a Netflix original, so I streamed it online and watched. Since this show is about a classroom of young children, there are several characters. However, in this particular episode the main characters were Arnold, Miss Fiona Frizzle, and Professor Valerie Frizzle. Arnold, a young boy, is portrayed as being overly cautious and a worrier. From the beginning of the show, he is voicing his fears of pretty much anything and everything. Professor Valerie Frizzle, the “original” Miss. Frizzle, is depicted as a knowledgeable elder. Even though she is no longer the teacher of these kids, she is illustrated as an excellent role model. Fiona Frizzle, Valerie’s younger sister, is now the teacher of the classroom. First, it is the first day back to school and there is a new student in the class. Arnold is extremely welcoming to the new student and shows her around. He goes on to explain how their classroom works, including classroom responsibilities. All of the children have individual jobs that they do around the classroom. This help ensures everyone is part of a balanced, clean, and friendly environment. This is also a great example of prosocial behavior. The final example of prosocial behavior can be seen as the kids are ready to take off on their first field trip in the magic school bus.
