The Civil War was a battle of great importance to our history of the United States. On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.
This election and the new political rules that came with the Compromise of 1850 led to the Civil War. Newly elected President Lincoln was highly against slavery. He refused to have any exceptions to slavery. He. He wanted it abolished in the entire United States.
President Andrew Johnson was being laid back about Reconstruction policies which made southerners turned to the civilian government in 1865 and 1866. The Union winning the war resulted in rebellion from the South because slavery was the reason for the south making money. Southern states were forced to put an end to Slavery because of the 13th Amendment. They also had to swear loyalty to the Union and pay off their war debt. Mississippi and South Carolina were the first states to have Black Codes or Jim Crow Laws.

Every American has either heard of or knows the details of the Civil War. The Civil War began in South Carolina in 1861 and ended in 1865. Like most wars, the Civil War began due to a disagreement. When former President Abraham Lincoln was running for his position he promised to end slavery. Obviously the slave owning states were against this, so they separated themselves from the states and created The Confederates States of America.
The northern part of America did not like the ways the south had and treated slaves. So they started a war about it which had begun with the battle of Fort Sumter which started on April 12, 1861 and ended two days later. About 620,000 people had died in the four years the American Civil War had taken place. So slavery with the ratification of the thirteenth amendment.
After Lincoln was elected president, the tension between the North and South rose. Lincoln declared that he did not want slavery to expand westward. Eleven southern states seceded from the Union and created their own independent Confederate government. Shots were fired at Fort Sumter to begin what is known as the Civil War. After many lives were taken away, the war ended.
Tensions rose across the country from those in support support of slavery and those opposed. Many states wanted to outlaw slavery while others adamantly defended it because it was the main institution with a high and consistent revenue. Ultimately, the disagreements over slavery are what lead to the Civil War. The country divided into an “Us versus Them” situation which lead to both sides having growing support for their views and making the groups less susceptible to an agreement. In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed slaves from confederate states.
The Civil War was actually the War of Southern Succession. The Southerners were concerned that their political and economic situation was seriously threatened by Northern bankers and industrialists. The Southerners paid the larger portion of tariffs which benefited the Northerners. The Southerners were also concerned that their land and property would be dominated by banks owned by the Northerners. Theses concerns led to what is known as the Civil War.
“Black Code” laws were put in place and these basically stripped blacks of the rights they were given and practically made them slaves again. The commander of Fort Sumter, Major Robert Anderson sent a request for provisions to be sent from Washington to Ft. Sumter and the execution of Lincoln's order to meet that request was seen by the south as an act of war.
