3.1 Description of Methodology Oral history method is an alternative instrument used for research in history, anthropology, and folklore (Truesdell, 2009). This method of research affected the argument by making it biased because they’re from the people who were involved in the community or who were around them. Gathering mostly primary documents allowed for the argument to be shaped based on the evidence presented in those documents. In which those documents basically talked about the highs and lows of the Oneida Community and what the residents and self-proclaimed leader went through on a daily basis. This made the argument more focused on how the community became so successful and what led to it becoming a silverware company through the eyes of Oneida’s
Ethnographic research is usually the study of people in their real environment and world where they interact with each other and not in artificial laboratories. Ethnographic research is meant gather information on how people live and what they believe in. The book Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down exemplifies strongly the ethnographic research as it tries to analyze the culture of the Hmong and their relation with the rest of the US people who do not live in that refugee camp. First, the Hmong people are those people who strongly believe in their culture. Laws and Chilton, (p.185) says that they do not interact with the other cultures freely in matters dealing with their health.
These records are accessed whenever there are substances which could be hazardous to our health are being used, or when the information on the records need to be updated, so when legislation changes. Scientific data Scientific data should be archived in an inaccessible file either on the computer or on paper records, this could be in a lab office. This data could be accessed when it needs to be updated or for example in a court case where it needs to be proved that a substance is or is not something.
In the documentary Kading discusses how the majority of this data has been withheld for so long, and it was at last time to tell the truth. This influences me to address how genuine these records are. I feel that if the majority of this data was known in advance, some way or another it would've gotten out, and if not why was Kading the only one who knew any of this information. A few questions are also asked when one of the key witnesses took back what he had previously stated about the murder and admits that he might not have been such reliable source after
History is a powerful weapon usually written from the perspective of the victors and reflected in their image. The losers are rarely given the opportunity to state their side of events, but historians work to change this disparity of information and bring balance. Historians like Inga Clendinnen and Robert Ricard attempt to make sense of Native Americans’ lifestyles base on information provided by European explorers and scholars a well as remnants’ of Indigenous people. While Inga Clendinnen discusses colonial life in the Americas between 1517 to 1570, Robert Ricard focuses on describing Native American life and interactions with Spaniards from 1523 to 1572. Both Clendinnen and Ricard work to describe Native Americans in Latin Americans and
Their characteristics of their actions and words show the relationship that these people have within their families. And it was not a caring-and-love one family relationship. They let their tradition tear family apart, which they can stop if they are willing to do it. Throughout reading this short story, it informs the audiences that each individual character in this story have similar characteristics--loneliness-- except children, who does not fully understand family bonds. We were in Palm Spring on the weekend of November 21 for the swim meet. For my Ethnographic Project, I decided to interview one of my daughter’s swim friend’s mom and my friend, Linyun. We talked about it before and the meet was the best place for this interview. She is approximately 45 years old lady, married with an Indian-American guy. Her back round of culture is Chinese and she is from Taiwan.
How are you? I have been doing great! Just being busy around Towson’s campus as usual. At the young age of six, a dark haired little boy was enjoying his times that he spent with his family. Together, they’d spend time visiting other family members in other parts of Wisconsin, as well as going to the zoo, parks, and much more. He was a very active child who loved playing sports to keep himself occupied. This young boy is someone that I would eventually meet and we have found aspects of our life’s to be similar, for example coming from a rough home situation in common along with our strong work ethic, and our thoughts and feelings. His name is Travis Korff.
We grow on stories. Stories we tell, stories we hear. The private and the public one just like our stories and the others’. As social animals, these stories we hear and tell link us. Thomas King’s book, The Truth About Stories: A Native narrative, tells us all kind of stories.
In Thomas King 's autobiographical novel, The Truth About Stories takes a narrative approach in telling the story of the Native American, as well as Thomas King 's. "You 'll Never Believe What Happened" Is Always a Great Way to Start is about the importance, potential, and dangers of stories, specifically those of creation stories and how they can shape a culture, with the aim to share King 's urgency for social change with his readers King 's informal tone, lighthearted jokes, and effort to make his writing follow the style of native oral tradition as closely as possible, all help the reader understand the type of narrative he believes would be most beneficial for the foundation of a society. His unique style allows for the use of personal anecdotes and requires that he breaks the proverbial fourth wall to communicate with the reader directly, to create the conversational feel of the oral tradition.
Native American Ceremonies’ When I was ten years old I learned of my Indian culture. I learned I was of the Cherokee tribe. My dad had always hung Indian decorations in our home, but I have never given much thought of why he has done so. This peaked my interest, so I started asking questions. He told me we were part Cherokee and part Choctaw native American.
