The Montagues and Capulets have a long-standing grudge. Nobody really knows how the grudge started. Tybalt had sent a letter to Lord Montague’s house asking for a challenge. All Tybalt wanted was to fight Romeo.
I wanted Mercutio to leave the streets because it is hot and if we meet, we can’t avoid a brawl. Mercutio wouldn’t leave the streets because he didn’t want to be seen as weak. When Tybalt arrived all he wanted to do was to fight Romeo. Mercutio was offended because Romeo didn’t want to fight Tybalt and that would only make Romeo seem weak. Tybalt didn’t want to fight Mercutio because this fight was only supposed to be with Romeo. Tybalt ended up fighting Mercutio because Mercutio was insulting him. Romeo tried stopping this fight by saying that you had specifically banned brawling in Verona’s street. Romeo didn’t want to get in trouble but sadly Tybalt wouldn’t listen. Tybalt stabbed Mercutio while Mercutio was shielded by Romeo.

Romeo and Tybalt were fighting furiously and Romeo stabs Tybalt and he falls dead. I told Romeo to get out of Verona because I was afraid you would take his life.
In my opinion I think that Tybalt is most to blame because he is the one who started all of this. No one would be dead if he didn’t start fighting with Mercutio. I think that Romeo shouldn’t be killed for avenging his cousin but he should receive a punishment for killing
As Mercutio and Tybalt fight, Romeo intervenes and in doing so, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. After the death of Mercutio, Romeo is disheartened by his death and avenges his friend by murdering Tybalt.
The Prince only banished Romeo because “...he was Mercutio’s friend./ His fault concludes but what the law should end,/ The life of Tybalt” (3.1,176/178) Since Romeo carries out what the law says, but is also breaking said law, the Prince decides that he does not deserve to die, but that he can no longer stay in Verona. If Mercutio had never bullied Romeo into going to the party, Tybalt would have never tried to pick a fight with Romeo. Then Mercutio would never had to stand up for Romeo and die.
but with the remarks that were made it made Mercutio have to join in the fight. Romeo probably cared more for his own safety than to speak up. You can say that Romeo probably didn’t want to escalate the situation and try to keep himself shut after the remark that he made. But that made the situation worse because Tybalt thought that Romeo's silence was disrespectful and wanted to fight him himself. Tybalt challenges Romeo to a duel and he declines the challenge and insists that he won’t fight Tybalt. Mercutio is angered by Romeo’s “cowardice” and takes on Tybalt himself. Romeo wants Mercutio to stop fighting Tybalt so he decides that it’d be a good idea to block his arm in mid combat and Tybalt stabs Mercutio from under Romeo’s arm and Mercutio falls dead after rambling about plagues and a pun or two. Romeo doesn’t realize that it is his own fault that Mercutio died after Mercutio even blamed his wound on him. Romeo lets his emotions decide his actions and becomes enraged and ignores that Tybalt is now his family and fails to see that he was the reason Mercutio was killed.

Mercutio decides to fight tybalt because Romeo would not fight back against him. Romeo is being a coward in the eyes of Mercutio so he decides to fight Tybalt on his own. “O calm, dishonorable, vile submission Alla stoccata carries it away. Montague and Capulet are both greedy because they did not put aside their differences and end their ongoing dispute, even though it lead to people getting hurt. Instead, Montague and Capulet watched Verona struggle with deaths and fights, but refused to do anything about it.
