Civil disobedience and non-cooperation movement in India was something that Gandhi initiated in India since the mid 1920’s.The revolutionary movement for Indian Independence spearheaded by Gandhi was based on ideals such as ahimsa and non-violence. After Independence, the Nehruvian model of development based on the four pillars of parliamentary democracy, secularism, economic planning for establishing a welfare estate and a policy of non-alignment brought about its own problems for the citizens of the country of a highly stratified society.
