For years kids under the age of 14 and 15 there is absolutely no scientific research to prove that homework is benefiting children. Students should not be assigned homework because it causes stress and along with that come other health issues and it is not worth it, and the results promised are not showing up in any studies on homework. Homework has been tested in many different ways by a ton different people and hasn’t shown any results. People around the country are complaining about homework. They are complaining about the realistic value of homework. A lot of teachers are trying to say that the homework is helping practice the concepts of the lessons, but studies show that the amounts of homework do not suggest an edge over people who are not having to do homework. This evidence shows that teachers feel it will help students academically by giving them homework and increasing amounts and that it does not make difference in a student’s education whether or not you have homework. Grades are one of the biggest stresses in middle school. With all of the big tests and the fear that if you fail then your whole future is ruined. Also most kids feel that they are always doing something for school, whether it is studying or homework they often feel the urge to cheat on them. Most schools are based on standardized tests and how well you do on them, middle schoolers are very stressed on a regular bases.
I agree with Alfie Kohn, when he states the strain that enormous amount of homework causes. But I disagree with his opinion in completely eliminating homework. We cannot eliminate homework because that will destroy the bridge that keeps students connected to their books after they leave school. I do however agree with Kohn in the recent, increase in homework children are getting. They are constantly judging with the classes more important so they can pick a subject to study at home. We cannot however eliminate homework because it gives students a chance to better understand the material been taught in class. We cannot expect students to master a subject without spending extra time beyond the classroom. They need to practice the material on their own so they have a better understanding of what their pros and cons. As far with parents saying homework ruining relationships, I find it sad. If helping your child to learn is ruining your relationship then things should be solved and talked between each other because homework has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Imagine yourself on a Friday and your just sitting in your desk, staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring, well Cris lived it. Homework gives the students an opportunity to learn how to work independently. Although I understand that assigning homework is not beneficial at times, I still believe that assigning homework can teach students many skills and even help teachers. Assigning homework to students is constructive, therefore teachers should assign homework because it allows students to gain responsibility, time-management, perseverance, self-esteem, homework also gives students a chance to review the class material, and it also helps teachers determine how well the lessons and materials are being understood by their students.
