On a previous research by Rule and Auge (2005), he found out that students prefer cartoon in language learning since Cartoon create an atmosphere that causes a high degree of motivation. Regarding on their research, the linguists debated that students who use movies can improve different language skills and achieve higher test scores. In my research, there are many similarities between Rule and Auge's views and my research proposal. We both see some ways are more exciting when we learn English from cartoons; it is motivating and enjoyable, far away from traditional methods like books or classes' courses, which cause boring quickly. Moreover, no doubt that the children who watch cartoons more superior than others do. If children watch more cartoon movies, certainly will affect their health. Therefore, a fair amount of time spent on Cartoon will help develop and educated children. All children are different so it is the parent’s responsibility to determine whether or not their children can handle the different media. Some media critics believe that violent cartoons, video games, movies etc. are good for children. Gerard Jones gives an example in his essay “Violent media is good for kids” which he explains how violent media can be good for children, Jones explains his point by giving an example of his son. Jones tells how he exposed his son to marvel comics which helped him in his kindergarten experience. The marvel characters gave Jones’s son the desire of “transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to embolden himself for the plunge into preschool” (373).
Show and Tell Scott McCloud begins his graphic essay, Show and Tell, with a series of sixteen panels of a young boy demonstrating how to turn a toy robot into an airplane. By doing so, McCloud is informing the reader of just how everyone starts out as a child. For example, as McCloud points out, at a day like “Show and Tell”, students would present with them their favorite animal or whatever was needed for that day to present to the class. This is just like using words and images interchangeably which is what everyone was taught to do as a kid. However, this is all considered normal so long as the child grows out of this habit as they approach pre-adulthood.
In the article, “What’s Up Doc? A Bloody Outrage, That’s What,” author Katherine Ellison writes about her personal encounter and response towards violent internet cartoons. She expresses her opinion about the internet cartoon called “Happy Tree Friends,” and encourages that young children should not have access to such inappropriate cartoons or watch television shows with similar content. Ellison claims that the viewing of media violence through other media outputs without adult discretion can negatively impact adolescents’ behavior.
Analysis of Gerard Jones’ “Violent Media is Good for Kids” In the article called “Violent Media is Good for Kids,” by Gerard Jones, a renowned comic- book author, is arguing that violent media can be helpful for children, rather than be overly harmful. Parents aren’t taking the time to really look at how helpful violent content could possibly be for their child. Yet, violence can help children learn how to reach for their own inner power that they may have never been able to find before. Furthermore, children as they grow up may even go towards violence that presents justice, rather than the negative types of violence.
Hidden Messages Watching cartoons is a huge part of everybody 's childhood growing up. We watch these cartoons over and over and over again and we adore them as kids and even as teens and adults.
