If students already don't do the work or get that education that they should be going to school for they might just drop out, there's no point to being there in the first place. A lot of students disregard grades and homework because the homework gets too overwhelming and they just give up. Students get multiple hours of homework everyday and it becomes to much for a teen and that can cause other effects that interfere with sleeping, stress levels can get to high and can cause depression, and even make a kid give up on school. Therefor too much homework is not physically, mentally, or emotionally healthy for
Students are spending more than half their day to finish assignments that were given to them by their teacher, causing serious issues at home, and even class time. Too much homework is not a good thing and can affect our lives, in a bad way. For example, way too much homework can cause stress which can affect work. When kids are working and they are stressed by the amount of homework they have, the final work isn’t as good as they intended
In the article “Excessive Homework Strains Family Life”, the author starts by writing about what students are missing out on due to homework; one topic she mentioned was exercise: “Kids who don 't have time for play and recreational activities, such as softball teams or dance, just don 't get to move around a lot—and there is evidence that exercise actually helps with academics” (Ponte n.pg.). Homework takes an exponential toll on students, which causes some to forfeit their sports in order to finish their assignments on time. In addition to losing the time for physical activity, being on sports teams allows children to learn social skills and meet new people. Instead, they are spending time by themselves completing their interminable homework assignments. Furthermore, in the article “Parents Should Take Action Against Excessive Homework”, Nancy Kalish continues writing about the inadequate amount of physical activity had by students and states that too much homework causes kids to miss out on playtime which is necessary for preventing childhood obesity (Kalish n.pg.).
One more reason why American students should receive less homework is that students who have a lot of homework, tend to get overwhelmed and they won 't even attempt to complete their work. Anne Michaud of Newsday makes an argument by saying, “Cutting back on homework can make the difference in whether some students even attempt the assignment” (84). This quote shows that assigning less homework can be a major factor to if the students make an attempt to complete the homework. Students can get very overwhelmed when facing endless homework and some of these students might not even attempt to complete the homework because there is too much. Cutting back on homework will make students less overwhelmed and more motivated to complete the homework.
Then, when the students get to school the next morning some of the students are tired from doing homework. Then, sometimes the student might try to doze off in class, the teacher might yell at them. This is one of the reasons why I think students shouldn’t have homework. Lastly, students shouldn’t have homework because of family situations. Most of the time people will have some situations with their family, and the won’t get a chance to do their homework.
Additionally, the lack of seriousness transitions into students being uninterested in school because they have to take unnecessarily long tests. Not only do standardized tests cause lack of school interest but they increase students stress. Having to sit through a test that impacts your grade, represents your intelligence, and future adds a lot of pressure to oneself. Overall, when standardized tests aren 't taken seriously the data collected makes it hard for educators to improve education, students lack motivation, and adds a lot of pressure to people 's everyday lives. Typically, standardized tests are multiple choice meaning students can guess for every question without understanding how to solve the problem.
2.2 according to research the factors that could cause exam related stress could be, a lack of preparation and planning it is shown that students start their preparation too late so they become stressed out. Parental expectations, parents exert high expectations onto their children in what they expect of them, stressing them out to achieve what is expected. competition from peers, competition between peers is cut throat, they always want to achieve greatness and not fall short of a peer. Inability to handle academic pressure, most students feel inferior due to the fact that they are not the same as their other class mates as they can’t handle the work load as others
Kids all over America aren't getting enough sleep and not being able to give there full potential. There has been study's showing that this is affecting the students a lot. This is making kids tired in school so they don't focus as much. Because of the lack of sleep, kids grades are also decreasing. This is affecting there education and could possibly impact there SAT scores ,and maybe even not get them into a college they want to go to.
Teens spend a great portion of each day in school; however, they are unable to maximize the learning opportunities afforded by the education system, since sleep deprivation impairs their ability to be alert, pay attention, solve problems, cope with stress and retain information. Young people who do not get enough sleep night after night carry a significant risk for drowsy driving and emotional and behavioral problems such as irritability, depression poor impulse control and violence; health complaints; tobacco and alcohol use; impaired cognitive function and decision-making , and lower overall performance in everything from academics to athletics. Hectic schedules with afterschool activities and jobs, homework hours and family obligations, and a clash between societal demands, such as early school start times , and biological changes that put most teens on a later sleep-wake clock. As a result, when it is time to wake up for school, the adolescent’s body says it is still the middle of the night, and he or she has had too little sleep to feel rested and alert. I believe there are pros and cons to starting school at later times , but I think it would help and increase the academics and health in high school students to get more sleep and have a later start time to at least give it a try and compare the differences in start times after a while and see the differences in academics and moods and go by what’s working best for students and allowing them to get the education they need , while getting enough sleep and not harming their bodies
Not everyone likes writing and most people have trouble with it. I am not a really good writer myself because of some of the experiences that I have dealt with in the past. Writing for me has always been a difficult thing. Ever since I was in my 7th grade my English classes started to get harder and harder to the point that I would cry at nights since I always wanted to aim for the A’s in all of my classes, and well the fact that I would always end up getting a high B in my English class would really get to my nerves. Besides that, knowing the fact that I had to take and pass my writing TAKS exam in middle school would stress me even more.
If this is the case, homework can be a stressor instead of a motivator. If bombarded with lessons at school and even at home, children might lose interest and worse, dread school days. This is a concern that bothers some parents and even educators.” With all these other activities from school, both academic and extracurricular, students, specifically the younger ones, are already tired when they get home. Having to solve difficult math problems, mesmerizing long lines or read several chapters can be tiresome for them. Not only will they end up staying up late but they might not be
Standardized testing ugh. The absolute worst part of school.Testing is so dreadful because it’s time consuming, forget consuming it’s devouring, teachers and students don’t get the graded test back fast enough, and last but definitely not least students already have to study for classroom test weekly now you want to overload their brains! This why I am against standardize test. These test have a desire to devour classroom time and brain capacity. Class is already very tiring, think of adding hour long test.
