At this point, almost everyone uses social media, especially teenagers. It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t have Instagram, Snapchat, or other similar accounts. Social media is changing us and the way we live in today’s society. It changes how we communicate in our day-to-day lives and how we receive information. It is really easy for us to get caught up in social media and most of the time, we don’t know when to stop. Social Media, like anything has pros and cons to it. I don’t think social media is bad, but it does have the potential to negatively impact us and change us. This is why it is so important to use it in moderation and know when to stop or take a break. In an article written by Rachel Ehmke of the Child Mind Institute, she talks about negative effects of social media on teenagers. She says, “A survey conducted by the Royal Society for Public Health… found that Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all led to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness” (Ehmke). This makes sense because, on accounts like these people want to make their pictures perfect. They are edited with filters and photoshops. When teenagers see pictures like these in their feed, it makes sense that they would feel less confident in themselves. At this point in their lives, teenagers are changing, growing, and trying to figure out who they are and what they want to do with their lives.
