In these days, the popularity of the social media increased rapidly throughout the world. This is probably due to the reason that university students, as well as teens, used it extensively to get global access. These social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook have become a raging craze for everyone nowadays. These sites can be caused some potential harm to society. This can result in many negative situations, so it is important for students to know how they can manage themselves with social media. Therefore, this report will determine the several negative effects of social media in university accompanied by some recommendations to deal with this issue.
One of the main negative effects, according to a new study by doctoral candidate Aryn Karpinski of Ohio State University and her co-author, Adam Duberstein of Ohio Dominican University, social media use is negatively associated with grades. First of all, they found that about two-thirds of the students reported using social media while in class, studying, or doing homework. This multitasking likely increases distraction, something prior research has shown to be detrimental to student performance to get lower grades. Moreover, as social media websites, such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter gain popularity, they are also becoming increasingly dangerous as they create modes to procrastinate while trying to complete homework.
