In this techno world, social networking and video games are undeniable ways of entertainment. According to the research, it has been proved that video games and mobile phones are effecting people in negative ways. However, adolescents and young adults argue that video games help them develop critical thinking skills. Social media and video games affect youth and young adults negatively in such a way that they spend most of their time on social media maintaining their identities, violent video games alter their sleeping routine which affects their behaviour. Video games are being realistic with the advancing time and making people addicted to video games. Violent video games influence adolescents and young adults’ sleeping routine, change their behaviour and criminal activities were observed in school. In the first place, playing video games for a long period of time increase the mental, emotional or physiological arousal as adolescents and young adults play fast paced game which needs full alertness and concentration to win the game. Consequently, prolonged video gaming before bed time causes lack in sleep. Violent video games are one of the reason people suffer from insomnia. (King et al. 2012, 1). Moreover, violent video games build up aggressive behaviour in players. According to the evidence, it has been proved that arousal of blood pressure and heart rate leads to aggressiveness. For instance, to test the aggressiveness in violent video gamers and nonviolent video gamers, both of them had to push button faster than the other and whoever wins had to shout out loud, non- violent video gamer blasted the opponent and made a loud noise, violent video gamers showed aggressive behaviour after losing the game and hearing that loud noise made by the opponent team. Internet and social media have made life easier in a way that these technologies are now used for online shopping, as an educational tool, way of communication and sharing stories. People do not have to travel long distances to get their favourite product, all they have to do is to order it online and get the product at their door step (White et al. 2008, 48). Moreover, video games help students and young adults develop problem solving skills. In addition to this, video games are effective in developing cognitive training tool and increases problem solving sense as it encourages players to think of more than one solution before moving on (Adachi and Willoughby 2013, 2). Conversely, Social media and video games make people lonely and selfish. As Baron indicated in his article, “people fill their times” when they are alone by calling their friends or relatives not to share any information or remembering them because they miss their friends, but people call their just to ignore their own selves and stop themselves from being alone (Baron 2008, 2). Surfing the internet and playing video games decreased academic grades as students tend to procrastinate.
