For instance, to test the aggressiveness in violent video gamers and nonviolent video gamers, both of them had to push button faster than the other and whoever wins had to shout out loud, non- violent video gamer blasted the opponent and made a loud noise, violent video gamers showed aggressive behaviour after losing the game and hearing that loud noise made by the opponent team. Internet and social media have made life easier in a way that these technologies are now used for online shopping, as an educational tool, way of communication and sharing stories. People do not have to travel long distances to get their favourite product, all they have to do is to order it online and get the product at their door step (White et al. 2008, 48). Moreover, video games help students and young adults develop problem solving skills. In addition to this, video games are effective in developing cognitive training tool and increases problem solving sense as it encourages players to think of more than one solution before moving on (Adachi and Willoughby 2013, 2). As Baron indicated in his article, “people fill their times” when they are alone by calling their friends or relatives not to share any information or remembering them because they miss their friends, but people call their just to ignore their own selves and stop themselves from being alone (Baron 2008, 2). Surfing the internet and playing video games decreased academic grades as students tend to procrastinate. In this essay, I will be analysing the article by Christopher Ferguson entitled Stop Blaming Violent Video Games. Video games have been at the front of social and political controversy since their popularity increase in the early 1990's. With the use of scientific research data, and the common misconception that society makes in connection with violent video games and young adults committing aggressive crimes. Ferguson demonstrates a clear and concise argument to the fallacy of video games being linked to heightened aggressive behavior and violent tendencies.
The article called “Shooting in the Dark '' written by Carey Benedict, explains how violent video games are affecting the teenagers that play them. Teens should not be playing violent video games because in paragraph 1 it says, ”... video gamers who seemed to be acting out some dark digital fantasy. It was as if all that exposure to computerized violence gave them the idea to go on a rampage — or at least fueled their urges. ”(Benedict).
The video gaming creates so many problems in our society. Johnson’s points, “The worst that can be said is that they sanction, and even promote aggression and violent responses to conflict. But what can be said with much greater certainty is this: most computer games are a colossal waste of time” (17). Johnson’s describes that the video gaming and the technology create aggression and violent behaviors in the users, and most games are just a waste of time. To illustrate, my 8-year-old nephew loves video games.
Violent video games are not responsible for violent actions in the real world. Violent video games have been around for decades. “One of the first controversial games was Death Race (1976), which had players running over people with cars. Even though the victims did not look realistic—they were just stick figures—the controversy stirred enough concern that the television
Violent video games have been blamed for everything from bullying to school shootings. Critics of these video games believe they cause people to commit violent acts in real life. These critics, mainly comprised of parents and other responsible adults, don’t agree with what the video games portray. Others say the video games cause less violence and are an outlet for anger and stress. Although violent video games have violent actions in them, teenagers should be able to play violent video games because there isn’t enough evidence to prove they make teens more aggressive, it could prevent violence, and violent video games are a fun and relaxing way to relieve stress and anger.
When people are playing video games it can make them feel angry if they lose or if they get annoyed and it can sometimes make them act violent. People that play violent video games do get aggressive but not to where there going to hurt somebody and put them in pain unless they are crazy and wanted to hurt people and then the video games could of made them tick and then do something bad but most of the time the people that commit awful crimes are crazy people intentionally trying to hurt as many people as they can. If we make video games a little less violent it may make people less aggressive but there will still be people committing terrible crimes of they play video games or not. People may try to cause harm to people like they could do in their video games but are the video games really the thing making people act out and hurt others, it’s just what that person is thinking and when someone goes crazy they do terrible things. Some video games are pretty violent and make some people aggressive but they are not the main factor for someone to go and commit a crime.
Most games in fact rely on the violence and gore to promote their games as in the case of Mortal Combat X and Just Cause 3 and especially games like the ones in the Grand Theft Auto series actual promote violence and homicidal tendencies. One of the landmark cases that can be noted here is the famous Manga killing case which occurred in Scotland in which a couple of students after watching the series Death Note decided to act like the protagonist, who kills criminals by
What a great fun that I feel when I win a difficult video game, it is really exciting. It took me a very long period to forget the massage on the screen (GAME OVER ).But with the time I realized that Playing violent video games is no more likely to be damaging to young children’s behavior than those considered harmless, so that I choose some researches that can deal with case . More and more kids are playing video and computer games — especially ultra-violent ones that are top sellers. Research shows that children are also spending increasing amounts of time playing them: an average of 13 hours per week for boys and five hours for girls.
Violet video games have been blamed for several young people killing students at school. Young people are not able to think like adults so they are easy to follow the wrong way of doing things like they see in video games. Other countries do not have the same problems because their laws are strict or their customs for punishing wrong doing is much harder. Some of the violent video games young people like to play are : Grand theft auto, Call to duty, and Assassin. These games show a lot of blood and people getting killed.
Over the years there has been a big controversy over whether video games are relatively good or extremely bad for children. Video games are super beneficial to a kid’s learning process and have been proven to increase social skills, productivity, and stress. The fear that video games are harmful to a child, is proven through countless experiments that they are actually great for their growth and brain capacity. Video games can increase the social skills in a child, Xbox and PlayStation provide great opportunities for cooperation and competition. Two different studies, one by Katherine Keyes and the other by Vinay Devnath, both have proved that the use of video games can increase the social skills that many children can’t grasp, “Video game playing is often a collaborative leisure time activity for school-aged children, and these results indicate that children who frequently play video games may be socially cohesive with peers and integrated into the school”( Keyes, PhD).
Besides being in the gaming community, recent games have added a feature in which one can actually chat or directly speak to other people, with this social interaction is not lost. In conclusion, video games are not perfect, but the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. Even though many video games are considered violent and harsh, through the facts given, it can be concluded that they have positive effects. Video games can improve following instructions and problem solving.
In regards to the perspective you have chosen to use in evaluating the link between video games and aggressive behavior, one can certainly see the strengths it holds. In the Psychodynamic perspective, the focus remains on influential struggles of the unconscious and the results expressed through behavioral activity (Nevid, 2015, p. 9). Thus, this theory reflects upon that which is taught in childhood and how it affects ones actions, even if memories have been suppressed (Nevid, 2015, p. 8). In part, we can see that from a biblical standpoint, what we are taught in our youth, remains with us always. Proverbs 22:6 tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (KJV).”
Because OR firstly, video games improve a child's ability to follow instructions, especially because many games entail completion of tasks (Gentile et al, 2009). Besides, children improve their problem-solving capabilities because these games have tasks that require quick thinking and use of sound strategies to move from one level or quest to another. Lastly, gamers improve their multitasking capabilities, because many gamers have to juggle different patterns and connect them at the same time to complete tasks (Ryan et al, 2006). Despite these advantages, the weight of violent video games negative effects is alarming, especially because of its long-term effects such mental ill health and
Some researches admit that violent games may cause adolescents to become tremendous. Studies showed that video games increase psychological awakening, it could also increase aggressive behavior, emotions and thoughts and finally let teenagers lose the sense of helping others. All these effects will be carried by aggressive young people. It’s true that video games are violent, but aggressive adolescents are more likely to be more attracted to it. Some games reward players for doing violent actions, so this will affect them negatively, letting them think that violence is normal.
So studies prove that looking at a television for hours is not harmful to children or teens. “ And because of brain plasticity-based exercises can improve the performance characteristics of the brain of almost every child, these new game-like tools shall be at the core of a schooling revolution” (“Preface to” 2). Therefore video games are not harmful and help teens and children in the world of today. In this paper, the facts have proven that video games can help a person in their everyday life. Whether it is with a social problem they may be having, they can make new friends, open up, and become less antisocial, or maybe that teen who has anger all the time, can take their stress out on the type of video game they may be playing.
