King Arthur lived from the 5th century to the 6th century. He was the king of Britain during the middle ages. King Arthur’s motto was “One day, a King will come, and the Sword will rise... again. Have power on this dark land to lighten it, And power on this dead world to make it live.” Arthur was a great warrior, a knight, and a king who fought giants that were 7 feet tall. Many people lived in his kingdom, called Camelot. The sword he used in battle was called Excalibur. Early tales say that the sword that Arthur drew from the rock was called Caladfwlch (a Welsh word meaning “hard lightning”). It is also noted that Excalibur has magical powers, which marks Arthur’s sovereignty over Britain. Some historians believe that King Arthur's name is derived from the Roman name Astorius, while others believe it is Celtic. He is also known for the Knights of The Round Table and for uniting the peoples of his land. King Arthur is also included as one of the nine worthies. The nine worthies are nine historical people, legendary men who lived in the early medieval period. The nine-worthies consist of Hector, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Joshua, David, Judas Maccabaeus, Arthur, Charlemagne, and Godefroy de Bouillon. …show more content…
