I find that very useful for people that do not know the dominate language to be able pick providers that are able to speak their language. I have heard so many horrifying stories that people over dosed on medication because they did not understand the instructions the provider told them. Putting this clause into effect has been very beneficial for people to get their needs met in their terms. According to the Official U.S. Government Site for Medicare (2010), “By 1982 every state had Medicaid, and by 1989 dental services were added in every state” (p. 1).
The hospitals receive incentive payments under the Hospital VBP by either how well they perform each measure or how much they improve their performance during a baseline period. A few examples of how quality is measured are nurse communication, doctor communication, pain management, discharge information, and a few other aspects (Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, 2011). Healthcare can be very confusing to consumers. New practices and policies never make understanding healthcare any easier.
The current healthcare reform movement is calling for health institutions to evaluate and redesign the historical approach to healthcare in order to reduce costs and improve outcomes for the population. Unfortunately, “the health sector itself has little or no direct control over most of the underlying conditions required for health” (Braveman & Gruskin, 2003, p. 541). These underlying conditions can best be described as the social determinants of health (SDH) defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work [and] age,”. The Ottawa Charter (1986) further defined the prerequisites for health a bit more clearly as peace, shelter, education, food, income, a stable eco-system, sustainable
The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987, provide the basic framework for reporting and reimbursement for geriatric oral care in long term facilities since most of the elderly are covered under Medicaid and Medicare. Despite these framework, these facilities encounter barriers to effective provide oral care to their resident. Nurses payroll account for a significate portion of the budget of these facilities, hence nurses spend time in completing section K of the MDs records which relates to oral care. Since these records provided by nurses are not effectively enforce and oral care marks are not taken into the overall evaluation of these facilities, most nurses are dishonest about the type of oral care provided to their residents by providing
However, in the story it did not end up as expected. A tragic consequence that had a huge possibility that it could have turned out differently makes it especially so. Looking back on how old this book was written, there are several changes that are embraced within the medical arena with respect to cultural diversity. Demographic differences are now given weight as well as spirituality which is reckoned to be essential especially to the holistic approach to providing healthcare, one that embraces the mind, the body and the
Intermountain Healthcare has encircled analytics to improve operations in order to achieve better health care outcomes and make a big difference in patients’ lives. though it is cumbersome challenging for the physicans and nurses but still they took it as challange in order to navigate it! though the use of computer programs are used in order to analyse the patient and examines the data which requires protocols for treatment.but later HELP was the first EHR system in united states which came into existence advantages : saving million bucks in procuring and also in its supply chain!
Reporting chronic understaffing to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the state board of nursing would be an ethical responsibility and the most appropriate course of action. How does your hospital/work area measure up to their staffing standards? Emergency departments across the nation are facing high volumes since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. In addition, the ability to recruit and hire experienced emergency nurses has declined.
One of the most common arguments in the United States today is the healthcare reform. The unique aspect of this argument is that everyone acknowledged that reform was needed, but as to what that alteration should be was the argumentative part of the reform. The goal of this reform is to help people who primarily need health care coverage and eliminate the preexisting conditions by insurance companies. In the past, many of the insurance companies denied coverage for patients with condition as such as cardiac diseases and many more because they consider it as a pre-existing condition. Passing this health care reform bill will help people in the low income and working class who could not afford health care insurance.
This act created a major revision of standards of care for nursing homes. This legislation also changed the expectations and the quality of care that patients should receive in long term care facilities. This Nursing Home Reform Act passed by congress specifically stated “that each residents have the right to be free from any physical or chemical restraints imposed for purposes of discipline or convenience and not required to treat the resident’s medical symptoms”. While there may be some benefits to using restraints in nursing homes, however, studies have shown that using restraints in nursing homes negatively impacts patients and for the most part does not prevent them from falling or from other incidents that may occur. There are very high levels of risks associated with the use of restraints (Lapane,150).
Quite an interesting article. It’s interesting to note that Cleveland clinic went out of its way just to redesign hospital gowns to improve patient reviews, which in part, is influenced by federal initiatives as the Affordable Care Act’s focus on quality of care (Luthra, 2015). Bottom line is, the measure of quality care is tied in to the patient’s comfort thereby leading to a better patient experience. And the more satisfactory the patient experience is, the hospital gets guaranteed funding for Medicare payments. Now regarding measuring the experience of having new gowns designed for patient comfort, using graphs and scales that contain quantitative information is one way to measure experience and this consists of numbers that measure performance, predict the future and identify opportunities (Few, 2005).
The consequences of oral health diseases are significant and adversely impact quality of life for millions of Americans each year. The nondental health care professionals have the potential to play a significant role in addressing the oral health needs and reducing oral health disparities. This article presents an interprofessional faculty tool kit that builds upon The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice as a framework for preparing professional nurses with basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes in oral health promotion and disease and injury prevention across the life cycle. According to author barriers to quality oral health care is inadequate education of health care professionals in basic oral health .So to improve to this there is an addition of more content with in the course.
“More highly educated nursing workforce is critical to meeting the nation’s nursing needs and delivering safe, effective patient care….. Without a more educated nursing workforce, the nation’s health will be further at risk (Tri-council for Nursing, 2010).” As the acuity of the patient increases daily, so is the need for increases of higher education for nurses. The factor of increasing complexity of patient health require higher education for the liability of safe practice, thus is an agreeable requirement for employers to place upon the employees. Acquiring a bachelor’s degree is only an improvement for everyone.
My chosen career path at this point in life is to be an Executive Director for a Long Term care Nursing Facility. In the world of for-profit Long Term Care Nursing, everything has a dollar amount associated with it. The average cost of a LTC Nursing facility in the state of Maryland is about $7k per month; unfortunately, people are not able to pay out of pocket this amount of money and the financial burden can tear families apart when coming to the decision that their loved one can no longer care for themselves. Financial concerns should be the least of a families concerns when making such a life altering decision. Nowadays the LTC Nursing facility does not just cater to the needs of the elderly but to also a much younger populations who are
Nursing Home Abuse Not Just a Staffing Issue For years the term nursing home abuse has been used to indicate when one or more members of staff are caught physically abuse the residents. This is absolutely reprehensible behavior that should result in instant dismissal and in most if not all cases prosecution. In fact, one out of every five nursing home residents has experienced some form of physical or verbal abuse, according to a Weill Cornell Medicine study conducted by Dr. Mark Lachs and his colleagues.
During my course with NSCC, where I am studying to become a Continuing Care Assistant. Each student is required to work in a continuing care facility alongside other health care providers for a month. I attended skills development placement at Harbour View Lodge located in Sheet Harbour. This placement has given me the opportunity to apply my knowledge, and skills that I have studied and practiced in the classroom. When entering the facility the first week I felt nervous and excited at the same time.
