The Calgary Olympics encourages investment in transportation, many foreign visitors that will come will bring a boost to the local economy. A major sporting event like the Olympics can attract thousands of people for the duration of the games. This creates jobs for the local economy for up to 4 years before the event. In Calgary here we currently have many sporting venues that can be reused and renovated if necessary. There is a lot of facilities such as the Olympic oval, Winsport Canada Olympic park, etc. The Winter Olympics would have a large and strong impact on Alberta's growth from our current state that we are in. In many cases, taxpayers pay for the cost of building but get a poor return in terms of improved public services, but we don't need to make any more facilities, we can save money and put that money somewhere else. Even if we are compelled to build new revenues, all of those buildings will be publicly open for Calgary's citizens to
they illustrates the controversy on the amount spend on sport facilities. It is not fair for the taxpayers who generally do not benefit from these stadiums, however, there are positive aspects for the major league. The construction of enormous stadiums tell the public that will provide excellent jobs for local
I feel there should have been more private investments, and that way, the city wouldn't be holding the debt of something that hasn't made good on the return. Proponents of public financing of stadium and arena construction often make the argument that the facilities will be literally “self-financing.” The way the facilities will become “self-financing” is by generating thousands of jobs, increasing tourism, and providing an even better experience for fans attending the games. If a city is interested in “re-developing” a certain area, stadiums and arenas are seen as a possible catalyst for the intended rejuvenation. Stadiums are massive projects that can transform the landscape of a city practically overnight and perhaps put the city on the map nationally.
SUMMARY: In his article, "Bring Baseball Back to the Olympics," author Jim Caple proposes that baseball should not only be put back into the Olympics, but that baseball and softball should be combined to provide a viewer friendly game. Caple develops this proposition by using the toulmin model and stating the problems and the facts before stating his claim. Jim Caple's purpose is to reveal to the reader how ridiculous it is that baseball is not in the Olympics, in order to further validate his idea of the softball-baseball combination. EVALUATE: This article is an everyday example of how the toulmin model can be used and is used.
The documents given all point towards a specific idea: how the olympics affect the world. The method in which the olympics affects the world differs in the various sources, with some speaking on progress in political relations, some speaking on progress socially, and finally others arguing it affects the world as a place for hostile countries to prove their worth to each other competitively. The documents about political progress are documents 1, 5, 6, and 7. The first, document 1, speaks very specifically on one who believes that the olympics will decrease tension between countries.
In the past 100 years, Anne Mellbye looked back at the most political Olympic Games during that time. Adolf Hitler was remembered most for the failed attempts during the Berlin Games, because he tried to use the games to prove his Aryan racial theories. Even though it did not end the way that he thought it would, the games ended with the African American sprinter and long jumper Jessie Owens as being named the most popular hero of the Games. Jessie won gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the long jump.
The Olympics almost always cause negative economic effects for cities. Although cities expect to earn revenue through the Olympics, not many cities generate a substantial amount of revenue. Los Angeles, the host city of the 1984 Olympics, is a rare example of a city profiting from the Olympics: “Los Angeles actually profited by $100 million from the 1984 Summer Olympics mostly by using existing stadiums” (Perryman 17). That city did generate money, but cities
According to Amir Somoggi the economic impact of the Super Bowl event is huge, with amounts exceeding $600 million in direct and indirect revenues. These huge figures create jobs for people in the days leading up to the event and after. Example, more Uber drivers are driving visitors around. The Super Bowl also exposes a city’s lack of certain infrastructure like a bigger airport, more hotels and that leads to developers building these types of infrastructure leading to direct jobs in construction as an example.

The city of Charlotte began to see their sport’s industry as a thriving industry in the city generating over two billion dollars in revenue and supporting thousands of industry jobs. Even after the 2012 London Olympic Games, many positive aspects continue to benefit individuals and businesses in the United Kingdom. For example, following the Olympic Games, the structure built for the event was renamed Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and then used for numerous sporting events. In fact, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is one of the largest parks built in western Europe in the last 150 years. Some surprising park benefits also include its mission to preserve the local environment, namely its wetlands and threatened plants. While the legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games continues benefiting the environment and surrounding community, the facility also provides additional resources to the area’s infrastructure.
Centuries ago many civilizations help and participated in the Olympic Games. Over the span of time, the Olympic Games soon became important and beneficial to these ancient cities. There are three main reason why the Olympic Games became so crucial to civilization. First of all, the most important thing that the Olympics influenced is the counting of time. The lapse of time between the Olympic Games was known as an Olympiad, which is equal to four years..

Husam Elgaali Mr. Johnson English 9 8 May 2015 Professional Sports Facilities Funding with Public Money Let say the government decides to take a large percentage of money from the taxpayers’ salaries and say that the money will go for a good cause. Sounds great, but what if those taxpayers found out that the money collected was used to fund for the construction of professional sports stadiums that have been proven to show little economic growth in a community according to. “Research has shown that stadium investments generally don’t sow economic growth” (LOU). In essence public funding for professional sport facilities should be stopped.
