Scientists in China during the Song Dynasty experimenting to find an elixir to grant immortality instead invented one the most deadly weapon: gunpowder. Gunpowder is the most negative invention not by creation, but by use. It is the basis for every weapon since invention and has more attributed deaths than the atomic bomb. Gunpowder has created more problems than it has solved. I concede not all uses of gunpowder are malicious. Fireworks are a prime example of how it can be used as an enjoyable and harmless medium. Gunpowder has also made it easier to hunt and kill animals to sustain life. But the proper uses never create negative impacts. The misuse and abuse of gunpowder have lead to it being the most negative invention ever. Gunpowder has always been an extremely volatile substance. When invented, the scientists kept notes on how it started fires, burned several of them, and even burned their research center to the ground. Even the most innocent use, fireworks, has resulted in thousands of deaths when factories malfunction and ignite, or worse, explode. …show more content…
The most common use of gunpowder also lends to it's name: weaponry. It changed war methods from typically close, hand-to-hand combat to impersonal battles fought over distances. In the most primitive form, it was saturated on tips of arrows to shoot fire at distant enemies. Thus, it facilitated the advancement of modern warfare as it's uses were discovered, from projectile cannons to single-shot muskets, handheld guns, and finally machine guns. War casualties soared with guns, which illuminated the newfound ease of taking lives, which clearly is a negative
It is not used these days because there are better and more advanced rifles that are available to us today. But, the Parrott Rifle was important to Texas, because it was a weapon that the Confederate Army used during the Civil War. Since the Confederate Army didn’t a lot of weapons, especially compared to the North, this rifle was probably a helpful tool. The Parrott Rifle was also used by the North. The Brooke Gun was invented in the beginning of the Civil War by a man named John M. Brooke, who was an ordnance officer in the Confederate Navy.
In a Beacon School, located in NYC, two-tenth - graders were seriously injured, leaving a boy with critical burns and another student with fewer server burns from her neck, head, and arm. Anna Peole, chemistry teacher was showing a “demonstration of rainbow flames” which will result burning of 4 different kinds of nitrates in separate crucibles in the classroom. However, the unstable amount of methyl alcohol hazes around the chemistry lab and explodes across the lab table surrounding Alonzo Yanes, a sophomore at the Beacon School. Alonzo Yanes was standing a few feet away from the lab table, where the crucibles were.
Gunpowder was very effective, but could also be a very dangerous way of warfare. The old black powder guns took a very long time to reload and could blow up right in your face. Another downfall that was a problem with using the black powder gun was the smoke was so thick that the enemy could easily see where you were at. Rather then todays age where we have smokeless powder and silencers so you can shoot and the enemy still might not know where you are.
In addition to their medical uses, the Axis forces used corticosteroids as a chemical weapon during the Battle of the Bulge. Inventions that Changed the Course of the War World War II (WWII) was one of the most devastating wars in human history. It caused millions of casualties and massive destruction and changed the geopolitical landscape of the world (Gross, 2019). During this time, some of the greatest minds put their heads together to develop inventions that would help the Allied forces gain an advantage over the Axis forces. Many of these inventions were used to improve military tactics, communications, transportation, and weaponry.
During World War Two, many flamethrowers were deployed in Europe, and they were effective in not only lowering the morale of the enemy soldiers, but also capturing pillboxes, bunkers, and just causing major damage overall. These were turbulent and violent times in the world. In the Pacific Theater, flamethrower units were indispensable and one of the most valued teams on
Kyle Mizokami wrote, “The result was a single man with the firepower of an entire squad of musketmen” (Mizokami, 2016). The United States lost nearly two percent of its population during the time due to the powerful weapons that were used. One weapon that was turned down and not used in the War, but invented during the war was the Gatling Gun. Also recognized as the world's first machine gun. It could fire 190 bullets per minute (Wheeler, 2006).
Although innovation is dangerous, it is beneficial for societies because it helps develop and make civilizations better. There is an element of innovation that is dangerous but the benefits from it outweigh the risks. In the short story The Flying Machine, the main character, the Emperor found the man who created a machine allowing him to fly. When the Emperor is speaking to him about the dangers of it, he says about his fears, “Some other man, who seeing you, will build a thing of bright papers and bamboo like this.
Innovative weaponry had a large impact on the Revolutionary War. A weapon is a tool designed to inflict bodily harm or physical damage. During the Revolutionary War weapons had to be improved to insure victory. There was a variety of weapons used by the British and the Americans in the Revolutionary War. The innovation of weapons in the Revolutionary War was important, including the Brown Bess, the invention or rifling, and the Kentucky Rifle.
Gunpowder changed warfare, not only in America, but all over the world. Although, gunpowder was not invented in the U.S., it made a great impact on the country. Despite the fact that gunpowder was invented in 904 AD (Max Distro, 2013), different weapons were used before the gunpowder ages. An example of a prominent weapon used is the longbow.
In addition, another advancement was in warfare in the form of weapons. Before the Civil War, soldiers would have to fight with muskets that had a short range of 80 yards. But during the Civil War, the rifle was invented and it had a range of 400 yards. On top of having a longer range rifle, the minie ball was invented. This was a soft lead bullet that provided high accuracy, shorter reloading time, and gave deadly results if
Although, some of the technology failed in its ineffectiveness, other technological innovations such as weaponry and communicative devices not only caused bloodier wars, but such innovative advancements have also influenced the results of the Civil War. In order to understand the significance of technological innovation, one must know the different kinds of advanced technology such as the tools the people used for combat, communication, transportation, and survival. The Union and the Confederates used weaponry such as guns, rockets, grenades, and mines for better accuracy and efficient shooting. They also used warships and floodlights for sinking and searching other ships.
The invention of the gun makes killing or brutally injuring someone an ease. This is the biggest piece of artificial warfare. But the invention of gunpowder actually isn't a good thing. Lots of people die by guns. In fact just about 48,000 people died by gun fire in 2021(Mongols in World History).
Gunpowder is one of the greatest breakthroughs, but whether it has helped or hurt the human race more is debatable. Guns allowed us to make hunting easier when it was essential to hunt to survive. On the other hand, gunpowder has also allowed the creation of huge weapons of mass destruction and has caused billions of deaths worldwide. On the other hand, men waged war before the invention of guns. So it can be said that guns were not the cause of all those deaths, they just made it easier to create destruction and death on a massive scale.
Although the American Civil War is normally seen as something that threatened to tear our great country apart, their are many great inventions and innovations that resulted from this time. Some of these advancements include railroads, the telegraph, long-range weapons, and the ancestor of all machine guns, the gatling gun. Many of these inventions went on to play a huge role in how the civil war played out. While others, such as the cotton gin, had minimal effect on the war, but a direct effect on both the men in service, and the people back home. Early war technology was seen as very dull, and ineffective.
In modern society, guns are seen as a form of control. Those who have guns are able to overpower those who do not. This trend was set when guns were first invented and has stayed the same throughout history. The one place where guns are not a symbol of power and control is in literature, specifically “The Old Gun” and Hamilton. In Mo Yan’s short story “The Old Gun”, the protagonist is a hungry boy who does not even know how to use the titular firearm.
