In the feature film, The Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont, the main message that the director has successfully portrayed to his audience is the power of hope. Frank Darabont has used a range of visual and verbal techniques to help him express his message to his viewers. In this report I will be discussing the film techniques used in one specific scene, Andy's escape from Shawshank prison and how it helped the audience to understand the power of hope. In the beginning of the film, we learnt that Andy got sent to Shawshank prison as he was accused for murdering his wife and her lover. Hope allows people to challenge those obstacles and to be taught how to be persistent. People approach problems with a mindset and a suitable strategy, thereby increasing the possibility of them to achieve their goals. Hope is so important because without the power of hope, we would most likely all give up and fail to achieve things in life. We see the importance of the power of hope in people like Barack Obama who had hope for his country to change for good. He said "change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek". From my point of view, I believe Barack Obama had set a very beneficial and superior example for his audience. Barack Obama is someone who most people look up to because of his achievements and also because of his way of thinking, his beliefs etc. He clearly made wise decisions for his country and had hoped for a change. His wife, Michelle Obama says "translating hope into action is something Barack has done for his entire career", and the majority of us may have witnessed
