People who are learning English as a foreign language can face some difficulties in their pronunciation, in the following words, I will try to describe some of the difficulties facing learners who have Arabic as a first language.
When learning a foreign language there are some factors that affect the learning of the pronunciation of that language such as the age of the learner, young children can gain good pronunciation more easily than adults and pronunciations errors can be fixed with less effort, another factor is the exposure to the target language, the more exposure the learner has to good pronunciation of the target language the more s/he will acquire good pronunciation, one of the things that helps a learners improve their pronunciation of the target language is to have a good motive of why they are learning this language, one of the major factors that can affect a foreign language pronunciation is the role of the native language, some sounds may exist in one language and not the other and sometimes learners tend to substitute sounds in the target language with sounds of their native language.
Here the focus will fall on the English language as a foreign language and the Arabic language as the native language to see what kind of pronunciation difficulties native Arabic speakers may face.
