Should The School Week Be a Day Shorter? Roughly 1,600 school districts have moved over to a four-day school week. Many researchers believe that there are many benefits to using this schedule. Reason one, you could schedule your school games on that day. Another benefit is it would make the week more manageable for students and teachers. Overall, schools should transition to a four-day school week. One reason why schools should use a four-day school week is that it will help schools save money. Schools can save money on food, and they could save money on gas and transportation. Schools can save up to twenty percent on money According to the text, “ The Colorado Department of Education says switching to a four-day

Teachers and students could use that day for options that have to do for school, teachers could use that day to grade papers, and students could use that day for their extracurricular activities. This evidence proves “During a four-day school week, teachers use the fifth day for professional development and in service. Athletics tend to take up a lot of school time” (“The Pros and Cons of a Four-Day School Week”, par. 4-5). This shows the helpfulness of a four-day school week, and what teachers and students could do. Students and teachers have doctor appointments and the extra day off is when they can schedule their appointments. The text states, “Many students and staff miss days due to appointments and other engagements. Having one unscheduled day a week allows them to schedule those appointments outside of school hours. This can prevent students from falling behind and keep teachers from taking unneeded personal days'' (“The Pros and Cons of a Four-Day School Week”, par. 6). This shows another way the school and the people that go there benefit from a four-day school
With 34 countries in the world, US has the least amount of school days in a year. Most people may say that an year-round school can give nothing other than stress to students, but there are some positive effects to it. Most educators and school boards claim repeatedly that learning loss would be eliminated from shorter breaks in a school round
Four day school weeks are sometimes a financial strain to low income families with younger children. Even though some families struggle others are very welcoming of having an extra day where there child can work for the family business a come
Less kids will miss school because some kids will miss school when they don’t get enough sleep, and kids will be able to get a little more than 8 hours sleep so they won’t face slew problems, and kids can get to school on time. Kids can pay attention in class. Kids can focus, and get better grades.
If you had the chance to do better in something required, wouldn’t you? Four-day school weeks are changing lives all around the United States. Four-day school weeks have changed many things for the better. From helping schools save money, to helping students improve test scores, to even helping parents throughout the work week. Four-day school weeks impact everyone.
Government believes extending the school day or even extending the amount of days a student attends school make will a big difference academically. Some are even pushing for year round school. This is not the best choice. For one extending the school year to a whole year will actually do the opposite then planned. The students and faculty would get tired of the full- time schooling and not use the time wisely.
When a student has an extra day off, they can spend more time focusing on their studies and taking the time to master a concept. To illustrate, Katherine Bradley states in an article for the Seattle Post- Intelligencer that “Oakridge School District Superintendent Don Kordosky reported that test scores improved after his district in Oregon implemented the four-day school week.” In other words, students academically improved after having an extra day off. The four-day school week is beneficial because it allows students to fully grasp the lesson they are learning, and if they are having trouble with a certain lesson, during the weekend they can practice it until they can finally understand the material. This is beneficial in the long run as it will allow students to get a better understanding of the material that is being taught to them, thus leading to higher grades.
In the article,The Four Day School Week, by Don Kordosky, the author states,”By trimming one day off the week, a school can save in bus services, cafeteria, and facilities costs. This can be especially crucial during state budget shortfalls, where K-12 funding can be in danger of cuts, and even more so for rural school districts, which must run their schools on a minimal budget” (Crosscut: "The Four-day school week: why less really is more"). This evidence shows that schools could save a lot money by changing to a four day school week. There are also some reasons we shouldn't pick a four-day school
To begin with, going to school one less day per week means you have to disperse the hours from the day you are not going between four days. This causes students and teachers to go to school for longer hours. By doing so, students are worn out even more than usual due to longer class periods. With the shorter
Four Day Week Most children all around the world can all agree on one thing, school is awful. Around one-hundred of the country’s, fifteen-thousand school districts currently use the four day school week. Schools should all convert to four day weeks for the following reasons. It is proven that a four day school week helps academic growth.
(Weller 3). This is a problem because it takes away quality family time from students, which is essential for their well-being. Thirdly, a second benefit is that the year-round schooling system helps solve the problem of overcrowding. (Zubrzycki 1). Since all students wouldn 't be in school all at the same time, it eliminates the overcrowding problem.
Critics of the shortened school week point to the fact that children who are at risk, especially those having learning difficulties may not be able to get the most out of the new program. As it might seem, 4-day school weeks would work best for kids who are self-motivated and would not serve the needs of those who do not learn in the same manner. This means a lessened focus, which can cause grades to drop. It also means that there is a higher cost for parents. Though schoold districts can save money with four day school weeks, it is the other way around for many parents.
Students can experience more socialization than they do in the summertime. Year-round schooling has more advantages than just regular public schooling. By starting year-round schools across the country we will be able to make education in America worth it by providing With year-round schools it will bring better education to the students that are taking classes at that school. As David Hornak says, “people are now more aware of the negative impact
However, a school could compensate for lost time by adding time to the end of another day that week if they found this to be an issue. To ensure that four-day school weeks will be implemented throughout school districts, voice concerns to school board members. Although some have oppositions to the idea of a four-day school week, it is clear that this modification would be for the greater good of the schools. By omitting a school day, students, parents, staff, and the environment will benefit
Four-day school weeks have the capability to change student lives. Every school should invest in the four-day school week plan. Implementing this routine would allow teachers more time to teach and give students the option to do their homework during class, in turn creating student success. All of these factors would help to enhance student and faculty life, while promoting success in the classroom. Having a school system run on a four-day rotation would increase their success by offering more opportunities for lesson and work time.
That only leaves Saturday, and that is inconvenient what with all the other things that took the only day with open space. Next for lengthening the weekends is so that kids can spend more time outside. You cant really go outside on the weekdays with all the work because there is no free time for them to leave the house and go
