The reasoning of this belief is that the woman is who will have the responsibility of caring for that child and it is her body. The issue, however, with this reasoning is that it does not deal with the morality of the issue or take into consideration whether abortion is right or wrong. In Webster 's dictionary, abortion is defined as the "termination of a pregnancy often accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of an embryo or fetus." It is the killing of an unborn child. Even though morality is hard to describe, the bulk of society complies that murder is wrong; therefore, abortion should be expressed as immoral as well.
And if a heartbeat defines life, then abortion should definitely be outlawed. Moreover, have we ever thought about what pain the fetus feels? Isn’t it unfair to a little fetus to experience pain because of irresponsible parents? And the mother’s health risks isn’t a debate we should dig in, it is the mother’s responsibility and choice
Thomson begins her essay by highlighting the debate over abortion boiling down to two thoughts. These thoughts are if the fetus is a person or not. Most people believe that if we could only determine the answer to this, the discussion if abortion was permissible or not impermissible would be over. This is true, because if a fetus was not determined to be a person than abortion would not be wrong, but if a fetus was determined to be a person than abortion in all cases would be wrong. Thomson first introduces the argument that the people opposing abortion who focus on the fetus being a person, must always believe that abortion is impermissible.
One side of the argument is Pro-Choice, this is the side that is for abortion. This side believes each woman should have the choice to do what they want with their body, this thought process is what spurned the Roe vs. Wade case. Pro-Choice focuses strictly on the women who is pregnant. The idea that it is their body is a valid point, the idea that not all pregnancies are planned or even wanted is another point that the Pro-Choice movement will argue to defend their side of this abortion debate. Pro-Choice feels that the women’s civil rights are being violated by not having the choice to decide for themselves.
An unskilled medic will result in an unsafe procedure, and vise versa. In places where safe, legal, clinical abortions are illegal many women perform them by themselves at home, which is very risky and can result in severe infection, and even death. The pro-life stance on abortion is the belief that abortion is equivalent to murder. The ideology behind the stance is based off of the belief that the life of the fetuses is as important as us who have been born. Supporters of the pro life stance use the argument that the fetus is a human being from the point of conception, and the mother has the responsibility of caring for the now fetus, then baby, throughout all of its stages.
Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life Abortion. The word alone has the power to make a room go still. The popular debate topic has a reputation of provoking aggression no matter where it is mentioned due to its strong relation to people’s rights and ethics, but does it really need further deliberation? Abortions should be kept legal across the United States for a multitude of reasons: they allow people to stay in school and work, largely lessen likelihood of would-be-parents falling into economic depressions, prevent overload of responsibilities to the unprepared, protect women’s rights to privacy, help reduce the number of parentless children, conserve resources, give options, decrease maternal injuries, lower crime rates, and maintain the amount of federal spending on welfare. In recent years, the debate between “pro-choice” and “pro-life” has become a well-known topic of discussion filled with heat and passion; nevertheless, the question of whether one should consider themselves pro-choice or pro-life should only be asked after one has done their research and knows the true definition of each term.
The two sides of the debate are pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life is the people who do not like the idea of abortion. They claim that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. They also say that the fetus can feel pain during the abortion and that it is unfair to families that cannot conceive on their own that are waiting to adopt (Abortion Procon, 1). This is the side that is backed by religions.
III. The word abortion by definition means the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. IV. Abortion , without a doubt, is an extremely controversial issue nowadays because although some people including me, are completely against it, others believe that a woman should have the right to choose. V. Life begins at conception .
Once such circumstance would be that a woman has more life plans than being pregnant and raising a child. A girl may get an abortion because she want to focus on something more important in her life than being pregnant or raising a child, or she may not be ready to be a parent and abortion is the easiest way to get rid of a child. Mirroring that, someone may decide to get an abortion because of the effect doing so would have. This makes an appearance in an anonymous abortion story, “This may be difficult for many to empathise with. Having a child at that time would only have compounded the issues I was faced with.
