The Pros And Cons Of Animal Experimentation

655 Words3 Pages

Animal experimentation has been a very controversial debate for many years. About 100 million animals are killed in laboratories for drug and cosmetic testing. They are used for medical testing and for dissecting in biology lessons.
I think animal testing is something that isn’t necessary at all. Animals are not treated well and are often abused by their handlers. Many animals are infected with diseases, bunnies are purposely blinded, and monkey are sometimes electrocuted for fun. Experimenters force-feed chemicals to animals, these force-feeding studies can last up to many weeks or months to look for signs of illness or health risks such as cancer or birth defects; many are also forced to swallow large amounts of a test chemical to figure out the dose that causes death. After the testing is over with many are thrown back into their cages without any painkillers. There has been undercover investigations where they show video footage of animals living in fear every time someone walks past their cage. …show more content…

Scientist have developed a new alternative to animal testing this include using human cells and tissues this is known as in vitro method, advanced computer-modeling techniques known as silico models, and studies with human volunteers. Researchers have developed a wide range of computer models that imitates human biology and the development of diseases. Studies have shown that these replicas can accurately predict the ways that new drugs will react in the human body and replace the use of animals in research projects and many standard drug tests. Another alternative is using materials that are already known to be safe. These materials have already been tested and are totally safe and don’t involve any new testing. There are many brands that are cruelty free and great! Such as Burt’s Bees, Earth Friendly Products, Lush, Alba Botanic, and so much
