Should the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki be remembered as a war crime or a necessary evil?
As far as I am concerned, I think the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki should be remembered as a necessary evil.
In my mind, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved many people whoever is American or Japanese. Also the purpose of dropping atomic bombing was decreased the loss of life. Before America dropped the atomic bombings, many wars made Americans realized that if they didn’t defeat Japan, they would lose more and more people. Such as the Battle of Iwo Jima, it is one of the most violent battles in the Pacific battle. In that battle, about 6821 American soldiers killed and about 21865 American soldiers wounded. The rate of injuries and deaths

It is the war that made American government realized if they planned to attack Japan mainland, they would face more and more difficulties and more and more death. As a consequence, America dropped the atomic bombing for avoiding the huge number of injuries and death like the Battle of Iwo Jima.
In the World War II, Japanese’s actions were fanatical. Before America dropped the atomic bombings, when American planned to land Japan, they found that the closer the United States came to Japanese mainland, the more fanatical their actions became. Such as The battle of Okinawa, in my view, I think the most shocking thing in this war is that Japanese soldiers killed civilians who lived in Okinawa after they were defeated by American. Japanese soldiers were banned to surrender; even some people were civilians. Now, in the Okinawa’s museum, there is a sculpture which is described Japanese soldiers were ruthlessly pushed people who lived in Okinawa killed each others. Before the battle of Okinawa, Japanese government even asked teenagers who were educated in high school and lived in Okinawa to join the war, even young girls must to become nurse who worked in battlefield. Most of them died in that
Most people know that the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan during World War Two. But what most people don’t know is why the United States decided to drop weapons of mass destruction on their enemies. America decided to develop and use atomic bombs during World War Two to save both American and Japanese lives, end the war, and to have a defense against Germany. One of the main reasons the United States decided to drop the atomic bombs was to save lives. While it may seem contradictory, by dropping the atomic bomb, the number of lives lost was minimized.
As the Japanese forces were considered the aggressors of the conflict by the Allies and Japanese veterans alike, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified. Their aggression previous to the bombing was demonstrated through the attack on Pearl Harbour, which led to America’s involvement in World War II. The attack was not one born out of vengeance and was not strategically logical, whereas there was a reason behind the bombing of Hiroshima, that reason being that the Japanese military would not agree to the clauses presented in the Potsdam Declaration. This declaration was given to the military officials as an invitation to surrender before the first bombing, providing ample time for them to make a decision to hopefully end the
The U.S. viewed bombings as a necessity because Truman gave the Japanese a chance to surrender when he issued the Potsdam Declaration. In his message, Truman warned the Japanese that if they would not unconditionally surrender that they would be struck with “prompt and utter destruction.” Similarly, by bombing the Japanese it would spare up to 1 million American lives along with 250,000 British casualties because U.S and allied soldiers didn’t have to attempt to invade the heavily guarded Japanese territories. Another reason the United States needed to bomb Japan was dominance. The secretary of state thought it would put the U.S. in a dominant position in the postwar and have power over the Germans.
The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki devastated the people of these cities. This, however, ended the conflict between the U.S. and Japan, but was it a good idea for the U.S.? Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed, and over one-hundred fifty thousand people were killed in the atomic bombings of Japan. The bombings by the United States were necessary because Japan was a powerful adversary that the United States needed to overcome in order to defeat Germany. They had started World War Two and put the Jewish people and gypsies and people they deemed not good enough for society in concentration camps.
The dropping of the bombs were necessary and fair due to the refusal of the Japanese to surrender, the millions of lives saved by a quick end to the war, and the warnings given to the Japanese. To begin, the Japanese soldiers have it ingrained in their brains that it is dishonorable to surrender. The author of Drop the Bomb as agreed by saying that “the Japanese have demonstrated a willingness to fight to the death”. During the war there were many times for the Japanese to surrender, but it was never done. With this in mind, they would have continued to drag out the war, which shows that dropping the bombs sped up the war which lessened the casualties.
Not to mention all of the innocents that were killed in the event that went down in Pearl Harbor. Those who had or will continue to have an issue with the atom bombs don’t appear to have problems with the bombs themselves, but war in its entirety. There is no code of ethics for war. After everything done, who was to say America owed Japan respect, even sympathy. For the justice of Americans, for the madness of the war, for the fighters the US has lost, the United States had to drop the atom
It was partially necessary for the United States to drop the atomic bomb on Japan because Japan had no intention of seizing the war and the U.S. had a duty to protect the Americans, however, the atomic bomb killed many of innocent people. At this time, the United States were under attack by Japan. Japan had no intention of seizing the war so they did a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor killing many people. The Japanese people felt like it was important to knock out Hawaii because that's where the U.S. Air Force was located.
Many would use Japan's direct involvement in the attack on Pearl Harbor to justify the dropping of the atomic bomb, Americans wanted either justice or revenge on Japan. Before Pearl Harbor people didn’t have to fear of being killed if they weren’t involved in the war. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor it wasn’t just on US soil, but it was also unprovoked and unwarned and led to deaths of over 2,400 military personnel. The attack on Pearl Harbor directly caused America to join WW2 since the attack wasn’t warned there was no possible way of warning citizens on the island to evacuate or to seek shelter. Three years after the attack on Pearl Harbor the 2 bombs were dropped not only out of retaliation for what they had done the years’ prior.
In the twentieth century, the United States dropped two atomic bombs, which were the most powerful weapons at that time, on Japan. It happened on August 6 and August 9, 1945. The atomic bombs killed 226,000 Japanese and ended the war. However, America should not have dropped the atomic bombs for two reasons. First, it was not necessary to drop the bomb to win the war militarily or to get the Japanese to surrender.
Justification for the United States Dropping the Atomic Bomb On August 6, 1945, The US bomber the “Enola Gay” dropped the atomic warhead that would spark controversy for years to come. The warhead that was dropped, “Little Boy” was the first time that there has been the destruction of a large city like Hiroshima within a matter of seconds. Approximately 135 thousand people evaporated (Jennings, Why the Bomb was Dropped) in a matter of seconds after dropping. Shortly after, Major General Charles Sweeney, decided to drop another bomb of which the Japanese city of Nagasaki would be destroyed.
Afterwards, the United States declared war on Japan, and joined allies against the axis powers. The United States’ use of the atomic bombs is justified because it saved American lives; Japan was given fair warning, and their aggressions towards the U.S. The atomic bombs on Japan saved many American lives. Document 15 reads: The entire population of Japan is
By being the first ones to create and use atomic bombs, the U.S. was placed in an area of great power. They had control over a devastating power that could entice the Soviet Union to tread lightly as sort of a failsafe for the United States. The Japanese were known as a nation that never gave up though. The article, Choices, Truman, Hirohito, and the Atomic Bomb, additionally declares, “... members of the Japanese government and military leadership strongly opposed surrendering. They argued that Japan should accept ‘the honorable death of a hundred million’ rather than give up.
“How, then, to weaken Japan’s will to resist quickly and efficiently without exposing U.S servicemen to unnecessary risks? Atomic weapons seemed to hold the answer” (Atomic Bomb- Justified?). The atomic bombs encouraged Japan to surrender. These bombs made them have a desperate need to end the war.
Thousands of Japanese military personal and civilians were killed the dropping of the atomic bomb. This was a very important turn the war because the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki forced the Japanese to surrender rand withdraws from the war. The American government did the right thing when they bombed Japan. America wanted to end the war with Japan and they believed that an economic blockade and conventional bombing would force the Japanese to surrender and pull out of World War II .President stated that the bomb was a military weapon and that he never had any doubts that it should be used as such.
The dropping of the atomic bombs on World War II on the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a very important part of World War II. The atomic bomb ended the war between America and Japan. This was just one of the important events during the battle in World War II. The Battle at Pearl Harbor, where the Japanese attacked U.S. soil was also why the americans bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Some believe that the United States was correct in dropping these bombs on Japan because of the attack on Pearl Harbor while others believe that it was very wrong to dropped the bomb.
