Should the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki be remembered as a war crime or a necessary evil?
As far as I am concerned, I think the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki should be remembered as a necessary evil.
In my mind, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved many people whoever is American or Japanese. Also the purpose of dropping atomic bombing was decreased the loss of life. Before America dropped the atomic bombings, many wars made Americans realized that if they didn’t defeat Japan, they would lose more and more people. Such as the Battle of Iwo Jima, it is one of the most violent battles in the Pacific battle. In that battle, about 6821 American soldiers killed and about 21865 American soldiers wounded. It is the war that made American government realized if they planned to attack Japan mainland, they would face more and more difficulties and more and more death. As a consequence, America dropped the atomic bombing for avoiding the huge number of injuries and death like the Battle of Iwo Jima.
In the World War II, Japanese’s actions were fanatical. Before America dropped the atomic bombings, when American planned to land Japan, they found that the closer the United States came to Japanese mainland, the more fanatical their actions became. Such as The battle of Okinawa, in my view, I think the most shocking thing in this war is that Japanese soldiers killed civilians who lived in Okinawa after they were defeated by American. Japanese soldiers were banned to surrender; even some people were civilians. Now, in the Okinawa’s museum, there is a sculpture which is described Japanese soldiers were ruthlessly pushed people who lived in Okinawa killed each others. Before the battle of Okinawa, Japanese government even asked teenagers who were educated in high school and lived in Okinawa to join the war, even young girls must to become nurse who worked in battlefield.
