So many people can agree that books educate them and give them a better understanding about themselves and the world. Books shouldn't be getting banned even if they have hard topics. One of the most important reasons why books shouldn't be banned is because books about different lives give readers a different point of view. Giving readers different perspectives can give readers a more open mind to other people and cultures. In the article “Banned books-pros and cons” the text states, “One study found that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, which is frequently challenged for religious concerns about witchcraft, “improved attitudes”about immigrants, homosexuals, and refugees.” The text also states, “Another study found that reading narrative fiction helps readers understand their peers and raises social abilities.” These pieces of evidence show that reading different books about different perspectives on the world can give people a better understanding of life. …show more content…

Although many students may not agree with the banning of books some students do think that some high school books don’t belong in a high school library. Shequoya Jones said “ I don’t think that all books belong in school libraries because some of the books have explicit language and material that some readers are not ready for. Also, you can attain the same books in the public library if you really want them”. This demonstrates students are not always prepared for the content inside the books, even when reading the back of the book. Andre Jones said “Even when reading the back of the book it doesn’t give me the specifics of the explicitness of book”.
This can make students very singular-minded and unaware of other perspectives. Personally, I wasn’t really familiar with the perspective of someone in gangs and how difficult it is for the next generation to break that cycle (THUG LIFE), which this book is all about. One more reason I believe banning books are wrong is because, you get more choices. Librarians say that they want kids to have as many reading choices as possible, but by them banning books they can have as many options to pick what they interested in. However, if kids get interested in a series and it is banned in their school library because it is more “mature” that gives the limited options. Jaquan was in the library trying to choose a book he was interested in but he couldn 't because the book he was looking for was banned. Some people say that racial slurs are why they ban some books, but most kids are gonna learn about racial slurs in their social studies class anyway.
