Crimes are an unlawful act that can be punishable government officials or authority. But what kind of crimes do women even commit ? women are usually seen to commit larceny , theft , fraud , and drug possession. But when it comes to men we see worse. We imagine rape , murder and worse . Women are not seen as a threat to society as much as men are. I mean it makes sense , which crime would you give jail time to and which crime would you give the death penalty to ? A drug possession is only harmful to one person, the posesser. A rape crime can harm multiple people. This crime can harm the parents of the victim as well as the victim. Of course the government would want to make the person who created more harm to suffer. 1 Compare and Contrast A Summary of First Author From the court case, Glossip v. Gross, Samuel Alito, Supreme Court Justice, argues that lethal injection IS a constitutional method of execution. He argues that lethal injection is “a fast-acting barbiturate sedative that induces a deep, coma-like unconsciousness when given in the amounts used for lethal injection...inhibits all muscular-skeletal movements...inducing cardiac arrest.”
Karla Faye Tucker killed two people in 1983. Tucker confessed to the crime, and was executed in 1998. The interesting thing about Tucker’s case, however, is that she claimed to have turned her life around while in prison. She was no longer using drugs, had found religion, and had even gotten married. But none of this was enough to change her sentencing from execution to life in prison.

Capital punishment is the legalized killing of criminal offenders based on the severity of the crime. We can trace capital punishment as far back to the eighteenth century. The King of Babylon, Hammaurdi wrote a set of codes for twenty-five crimes. If they were broken you could be killed. Killing during this time was more severe than it is now.
Various types of crimes have led many women to death row such as Karla Faye Tucker, since the execution of North Carolina’s own Velma Barfield, who was executed in 1984. Also, Tucker becomes the second woman put to death in the United States since capital punishment was re-introduced in 1976. Fourteen years later, she was condemned to death in Texas, since Chipita Rodriguez was hanged for killing a horse trader in 1863, and Tucker became the first female to be executed in Texas since that time. The Dallas Morning News asserts that “Tucker, 38, was convicted of using a 3-foot-long pickax to hack Jerry Dean to death during a burglary at his Houston apartment in 1983. Also killed was an overnight guest, Deborah Thornton” (Hoppe).

The death penalty is a precedent set centuries ago as a method of punishment for severe crimes. In 1923, the state of Texas declared that those sentenced to death were to suffer through the electric chair by the hands of the state, instead of being hanged by the hands of the counties (TX Executions). Later on, Texas would adopt the lethal injection method. Many see the death penalty as an inhumane violation of the basic rights defined in the Bill of Rights. On the other hand, others may argue that it is unpractical to abolish the death penalty due to the voidance of justice.
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is a legal process in which a person is put to death as a punishment for a crime by the government of a nation. The United States is in the minority group of nations that uses the death penalty. There are thirty-three states that allow capital punishment and seventeen states that abolished it (Death Penalty Information Center). The morality of the death penalty has been debated for many years. Some people want capital punishment to be abolished due to how it can cost a lot more than life imprisonment without parole, how they think it is immoral to kill, and how innocent people can be put to death.
(Moulds, 1978) This leads to women getting less harsh punishments than their male counterparts. So, one could argue that this need to protect women is actually hurting them, and society in general. When they are given lighter sentences, women learn that they can get away with more, because of the leniency they are given in the system. However, taking a step back and looking at the way media treats women vs men tells a very different story.

In these countries, the topic of gender discrimination derives strongly held opinions that conclude that the justice system cannot contest sentencing disparities derived from race, class and gender backgrounds. Among the judicial system players, there are several factors that lead to leniency in sentencing women as compared to men. It has been found that in an example of shoplifters, women who engage in shoplifting will highly likely be single mothers who do not have enough money to feed their children and mostly go for food stuffs. On the other hand, men engaging in shoplifting do so to support their drug habits or seemingly expensive lifestyles.
