In the contemporary setting, the upsurge of technology paved way for global modernization that makes humanity’s life easier and convenient. The benefits of technological advancement, in different fields and areas of discipline, have been visible and very well felt in developed countries - those considered part of the First World Category. On the other hand, the effects are still rippling among developing states in different regions worldwide. Though some may view technology as an aide or tool to achieve sinister objectives (e.g. abortion, drug abuse, nuclear weapons, etc.), it cannot be denied still, that technology, if used properly, may outweigh the setbacks and can even positively change the course of human history. With these technological …show more content…
It is noteworthy to consider that the advancement in the medical field does not refer only to “theoretical” advancement, but to “physical” advancements as well – the latter referring to various pieces of equipment used in the field of medicine. With the main objective of achieving favorable and better outcome pertinent to health-related challenges, latest and most advanced medical equipment and “ideas” are introduced recently. To cite one, the idea of having a Mobile Stroke Unit came from the premise that Cerebrovascular accident or Stroke ranks as one of the top causes of death around the globe. Accordingly, recent Statistics from the World Heart Federation reveals that stroke or CVA is the second leading cause of death for adults aged 60 years old and up. Furthermore, it also ranks 5th among young people and adults ranging 15 – 59 years old. With these numbers, medical professionals are inclined toward improving medical interventions to battle the disease process in a fastest way possible. Bearing in mind the severity of the disease and possible poor prognosis when immediate care is not rendered, efficient and time-bounded management is highly regarded and aimed. The Mobile Stroke Unit aims to provide a speedy and organized all-in treatment modality for stroke victims. More so, the accessibility of such care is made available for all at any given time, …show more content…
For decades, medical researchers have spent countless time and effort to develop a vaccine for dengue; and after long careful study and testing, the effort paid off - the most awaited Dengue Vaccine is here; nonetheless, it is yet to be launched worldwide. The advent of the said vaccine could probably change or even turn the numbers of mortality and incidence rate to zero. This may seem impossible for some to date, yet, medical researchers are in high hopes that the vaccine will be made available in years to come. Anyway, another innovation that the world is looking forward is the One-drop blood testing. By this medical procedure, hematologic tests are already made easy with just a single drop of blood obtained from a needle prick. The procedure will benefit most those people who are having phobia or fear with blood extraction. Moreover, those required to undergo blood testing round the clock will be relieved once this procedure is mastered and adopted. Also, blood extraction among patients in Pediatric Wards will be reduced, thereby lessening the agony that the infants and children
There were several factors which may have contributed to this scenario. The patient’s comorbidities which include the ischaemic stroke which happened 2 years ago might have caused his fall. A Grade A recommendation and Level 1+ evidence were given by the National Stroke Foundation (2010) that patients are advised to undergo intensive rehabilitation for the first six months post-stroke. Given the fact that he had only received four months of inpatient rehabilitation, his functional status might not have been maximised. In addition, a Grade A recommendation and Level 1+ evidence were given for multi-disciplinary intervention in inpatient rehabilitation (MOH, 2008).
Before blood transfusions were in use, soldiers kept dying because of the severe blood loss they were experiencing and no one could do much once someone lost a certain amount of blood. In 1914-1915, the use of “sodium citrate anticoagulant was introduced by Albert Hustin, Luis Agote, and Richard Lewisohn” (Pierce 3), which allowed the blood to be stored for a few days and “ended the need for donor and recipient to be in the same room” (Pierce 5). Once the war began, the transfusions done by the French and British doctors used “older, more direct methods” (Pierce 2). The greatest cause of excessive blood loss was caused by the wounded shock towards their injuries. In 1917, more physicians became familiar with transfusions and that is when Robertson drew up the plans for the every first blood bank.
These results are not completely logically due to the fact of the unavailability there is of this technology, not all collegiate and youth programs are going to have access to telemedicine, making it not logical. Aside from this, the information is still reliable and sufficient. The authors organized the information all in one section, but inside of this it is still relatively simple to
Phlebotomy, otherwise known as bloodletting, is an ancient tactic to help cure people of disease. A future research topic to probe into would be to find an alternative way to rid of
Bloodletting, which is the withdrawal of blood from a patient to cure or prevent illness and disease, dates all the way back to circa 2500 BCE. It was used for centuries but not until the late 1800s was it questioned for its beneficiality, and it was still used in some forms during the 1900s. This practice first originated in ancient Egypt. Then it spread to Greece, Rome, India, and the Arab areas.
As we can see in our studies, the role of technology and sources has changed tremendously over time and the development of society has changed as well due to the resources now available. As we take a look at all these documents we can see how each one has affected each other to help grow a society As we take a look at documents 1 and 3 we can see that education and using resources was very important because it led to the teaching of many important studies helping to develop boys many different teachings to survive and help make a living. One of the many important things in document 3, is all of the different crafts being taught to these young boys that could relate to document 1 where they are able to use the special maguey plant and their
Modernization of technology limited the freedom to think for one’s self. It has caused the people of the world to rely solely on orders and rules without thinking of the consequences of those actions. The technology once used to enhance your daily life, now runs it. All people who have succumbed to the advancement of technology have given up their freedom to think, and their ability to live life like it was meant to be lived.
The purpose of the eICU is to: - Accurately monitor and enhance care delivery to the ICU patients remotely - Reduce the time from when the problem is identified till some action is taken over it - Help bring better results, reduction in costs and smaller stays - 10 percent of inpatient beds nationwide are allocated to ICUs, the percentage is higher in tertiary-care centers. - The highest acuity is for the ICU patients. The mortality rate of the ICU patients exceeds 10 percent, and their daily costs are four times higher as compared to those of other inpatients. - They experience more incidents of medical errors (1.7 per patient per day), and because of their inherent instability, they have greater chance to get harmed from suboptimal care.
The blood people need and international problem. The health and safety people are in. ii. Support idea 1. This is very serious because disaster is happening everywhere.
1.1 Background of the Research Technology has always develop for a long time. Until today, it is still develops at a stunning pace. As a matter of fact, technology has touched every aspect of life; from the way we move by using a horse changed into automobile, from walking on the land to flying in the air and reach farther distance. The products we are using in our daily life also produced by the technology. Under those circumstances, including the economy, politics, and also society, are affected by technology.
Bloodletting was a treatment which was thought to cure a patient from an illness (see fig. 1). It was done by cutting open a vein from someone using a special tool called the
CMS`s Medicare and Medicaid program might one those heading to failure because of the financial constraints the government has been imposing on this program. Also, public reporting on how the hospitals, providers and nursing homes are faring. They are also more current and projected like “Quality Improvement Organizations, Post- Acute Care Reform Plan and Development of Quality Indicators for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs) which is, an overall goal of this project was to assist CMS in developing appropriate measures to monitor and evaluate the quality of rehabilitation services provided to Medicare beneficiaries in IRFs”, (CMS, 2017, p. 10). As for The Joint Commission, the current and projected initiatives are “Performance Measures for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Certification which all currently certified acute stroke ready hospitals, as well as those hospitals seeking initial certification, will be required to implement data collection for five standardized measures effective with discharges on and after January 1, 2018”, (TJC,2017, p.1). In 2016, an advanced certification was launched for Total Hip and Total Replacement Knee and in 2017, advanced certification for Palliative Care program was launched.
However, ignorance can lead to misunderstandings on a much larger scale, including world governments, which can often lead to war. Technology is one source of ignorance encouragement. With the growing prevalence of technology, humanity is growing dependent on this resource and becoming dehumanized. Many accept this loss, but there are some that wish to restore the past’s lack of immediate access to information, which they
Technology can be defined as “the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment”. (n.d.) Therefore, when we speak of technological evolution we can say that it is an “innovation and technology related hypothesis that describes the fundamental change of society through technical development”. Different theorists have their own perspective on the evolution of technology but, although each of their views differs from another, they shared certain common features, mechanism, and incidence in technology. Some theorists have developed distinct approaches to understanding the nature of the technological process and the relationship between technological development and the social world.
Lastly, the ambivalent connection between technology and society will be discussed. The advancement of technology in society correlates with global change. Technology determinism refers to the notion that technology serves as an agent to promote social change and transform the natural environment (Murpie & Potts, 2003). Cultural materialism refers to the relationship between technology and culture (Murphie and Potts, 2003). Technological determinism is a reductionist theory and it primary focuses on the advancement of social structure and cultural values (Veblen, 1857–1929).
