Although Leah Libresco is in favor of stopping people from dying of guns, she does not feel that standardized gun control is the right answer; therefore, the best way to deal with sensitive issues is by taking a personal approach to them. One gun control proposition is to ban silencers. Libresco does not feel that this is the right approach, and she uses a simile to prove her point; “An AR-15 with a silencer is about as loud as a jackhammer” (Libresco n.pag.). Comparing a silenced weapon to a jackhammer proves not only that silencers don’t truly silence a gun, but it also aids in Libresco’s attempt to prove that wide gun control is unwise. Jackhammers are cumbersome, unwieldy tools, just as mainstream gun control proposals are cumbersome and
Passing gun control legislation that creates a universal background check and gun database system as well as passing mental health legislation that improves the health care system’s protocols and policies for assisting people with mental health disorders and that enacts counseling programs in communities and schools will decrease the likelihood of mass shootings in schools. The United States is bitterly divided. Issues of great concern, such as the rise of mass shootings, are partisanized. Both sides of the debate will not comprise or listen to what their opponents have to say. Groups from both sides can only agree that one innocent life taken from gun violence is one too many.
Stricter Gun Control Laws: A Safer Society The debate over gun control has been a longstanding issue in the United States. With the rising number of mass shootings and gun violence, stricter gun control laws have become a topic of discussion. The question remains, would stricter gun control laws be better for society? This essay will argue that stricter gun control laws would indeed be better for society.
1st Amendment: The First Amendment of the United States Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridg-ing the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” In short, this amendment prohibits the establishment of a state religion, protects freedom of the press and speech, and protects the right to assemble and petition the government. The establishment clause enforces the separation of church and state and prohibits the government from restricting a citizen’s religious practices and forbids the government from forcing religion onto its citizens.
Throughout history, especially recently, the question of whether gun control violates the 2nd Amendment has been a question which many people claim they know the answer to, but it may not be that transparent. I believe gun control is constitutional, and it deters crime and makes society safer, meaning I side with the pro-gun control ideas. Within the topic of gun control, there are many factors in which people must take into consideration when proposing an answer such as whether it deters crime, what the economic impact is, and what should be changed. NEW PARAGRAPH... Gun control can date way back, but what really made it controversial was the court case of Heller vs DC in 2008.
When it comes to the topic of guns, most of us will readily agree that it is our constitutional right to bare arms. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of as AR platform and assault rifles. Whereas some are convinced that we should not be able to own them, others maintain that we should be able to own assault rifles. The term “assault weapon” is an invention of pro-gun control politicians that demonizes semi-automatic rifles with certain looks.
“On March 10, 2009, Michael Kenneth McClendon, 28, shot and killed ten people in a shooting spree in three communities in two southern Alabama counties: Kinston in Coffee County, and Samson and Geneva in Geneva County. Five of the victims were family members and two were children. After engaging in an exchange of fire with police, he committed suicide, bringing the total of dead to eleven. Officials at the time said this was the worst shooting event in Alabama history” ((2009, March 10), Geneva County massacre. Retrieved from Wikipedia.
Since 1982, regulations on an individual’s right to arms have been negotiated. 55 percent of Americans see direct correlation between guns and crimes, but they don’t see the other side of the story. Guns is not what causes these crimes. Because of the real meaning behind the second amendment, the real reason behind mass shootings, and the
Adam, a 20-year old, went home from college to visit his family like every other typical month. One night around midnight he heard walking in the house, thinking it was his family. He got up only to realize that it wasn’t his family, it was three robbers. He ran downstairs to the family safe and retrieved the AR-15, going back up stairs to confront the criminals he flashed the weapon at them and they fled from the house to the nearest exit. The “Assault” weapon or AR-!5 is the most commonly debated weapon to get banned in the United States.
Unachievable Controversy abounds in the public and private arena today with gun control once again, at the forefront. Gun control is such a hot subject it is often the first topic discussed on the nightly news and serves as a heated discussion around the dinner table in many homes. Regardless of gun control laws, people who want to kill with guns can easily find guns to kill with. Constitutional protection, Ineffective policies, and political division clearly demonstrate that gun control is not working.
Gun Control: Pros and Cons Guns are the cause of most of America’s violent crime. The topic of gun control has been a main argument for the 2016 presidential election. Republican nominee Donald Trump believes that there should be less if not any restrictions to the second amendment. Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton believes that there should be more restrictions to the second amendment.
The law is never something to take lightly especially when the specific law is set in place to prevent the loss of human life. Gun control laws have a basis set by the federal government and are expanded upon by each individual state as they deem fit. Federal gun laws and state gun laws have their similarities and differences, but both are set in place as a barrier of protection against those who could cause bodily harm to others if equipped with such power that a gun holds. The U.S federal Government has its own set of regulations concerning firearms and the state of California builds upon them to create a stronger gun policy, meaning both sets of codes and regulations have similarities and differences, but no matter the differences, these laws are set in place to prevent massacres like the Las Vegas, Nevada shooting, and while California gun laws are built upon federal laws, they can be improved for a safer more controlled environment. Federal gun laws are the foundation for state laws and the building blocks for more advanced restrictions set by individual
“Another one?” says DJ Khaled as he watches the news reporter talk about yet another mass shooting. Gun control is a serious problem. Many people are coming together and discussing gun control, but nothing is being done to improve it. My paper is about gun control and I will discuss what my topic is over, how gun control has effected people, and what steps are being taken to improve these circumstances.
Imagine that you end up dying due to the use of a dangerous gun. According to Opposing Viewpoints in Context, “Guns are the cause of thirty-three thousand deaths in the US each year.” Ever since guns were made they have been a problem to humans across the globe. Now laws are being put into place in hope of stopping these problems.
Gun control has been the subject of many debates for many years now. Some human beings want to tighten gun registration and license while others demand their 2nd amendment right to be recognized and protected without restriction. Seeing how legally prohibit guns seems almost impossible, people are trying to find a neutral ground. Today in the U.S., Americans have many different opinions about gun control, how it should be handled and what action that needs to be taken. There are many Americans who questions the use of guns themselves and not the person that’s actually pulling the trigger.
The con side of gun control laws made good points as to why more laws would not be in the benefit of the people but they did not provide credible sources to increase the credibility of their claims. A lot of their references included well known newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the NY Times. While they did reference the Supreme Court, US Fish and Wildlife Services, and the Heritage Foundation I believe that these few sources are not enough to support their claims and make them credible. When looking at their Top Con quotes I found that they used a lot more credible sources such as US representatives, senators, and the Founder and President of Crime Prevention Research Center. Therefore they were able to make their claims more credible.
