Several say that it is the solution to the big problem the United States has with school shootings. It may not stop the shooter but it could prevent a massacre. Others believe that teachers having guns is too much. They think that the children need more loving and caring adults in their lives, not more guns. People also believe that any kind of automatic or semi-automatic gun should be banned in the United States.
If we were to arm teachers, it would make it much more challenging for a school shooter to succeed in killing innocent children. Kasey Hansen is a special needs instructor, and she one among many teachers who conceal carry at school. “I never really thought about it before Sandy Hook,” Hansen said. “It just killed me. It’s something personal when you mess with students or children.
A huge question facing gun owners is now, are they willing to give up the firearms they possess to save another human beings life? Gun Control should be put into action to keep school shootings from happening and protecting the children of America. The significant number of school shootings just in 2018 already (18) shows that guns need to be put under control and it needs to happen now. From the book Gun Control, Terry O’Neil “According to FBI statistics, each year around six thousand gun related incidents in our nation 's schools come to the attention of law enforcement officials.” There were over 43,211 students arrested for dealing with guns. We have to get these guns out of kids hands and if we can’t, then make sure they can’t use them.
many Americans are deciding to change their views on gun laws. Since the surge of schools shootings like Columbine. Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook there has been a conversation about preventing tragedies like this from happening. Should school teachers and faculty be allowed to have guns in school as a form of protection? About 65% of Americans think so.
Some people don’t think that we should have guns and some do. The main problem that people think that teachers shouldn’t have guns is the fact they would be promoting violence to the kids and they also think that some kids might be able to steal the guns from the teacher's desk and start shooting. But there is still the group who thinks having guns in school is a good idea. They think it is a good idea because if teachers have guns they can help defend the children by shooting back at the attacker. They can also make the argument saying that it makes parents feel safer to send their child to school knowing that they are safe.
There has been over 250 school shootings in the past 3 years. Imagine if your child went to a school with no safety and one day and there’s a school shooting, and your child is shot. How would someone react? This is why schools should be able to search students whenever they want to. Schools should be able to search students whenever they want to because the school has to be safe, the schools own the lockers, and the school acts as the parents when the students are at school. A huge priority of school is that students should be kept safe, and that happens from staff being allowed to search students.
With reaction being defined by Merriam Webster as “to behave or change in a particular way when something happens, is said, etc.” If the police cannot be there to react to an attack that leaves only the school staff, including teachers. The main controversies involving arming teachers are that: 1.) Children will find the guns and think that they are toys and will thus play with them. 2.) Children will know where the guns are, so when
Guns are a Necessity for Safety “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” commented Wayne LaPierre, the NRA’s chief executive officer (Resmovits 1). In the recent years there have been more and more school shootings and parents, teachers, and officials say it is about time we upgrade the security in in a classroom by arming teachers. Teachers are the first line of defense and the protectors of their students. Teachers are in the first line of fire giving them guns would give them another option of safety. Teachers should be able to carry weapons at school in order to themselves and their students.
Unlike professional shooters, teachers must undergo a series of training in order to obtain a gun. Without the proper protection and training, which was not included in the resolution, would guarantee that the weapons would fall under the wrong hands of the students. Everytown Research states, “Among shootings at K-12 schools in which the age of the shooter was known, 56 percent (39 of 70) were perpetrated by minors.” The resolution states that all teachers would be armed, but, if the teachers were to be armed, the teachers would traumatize the students mentally away from them. Hamby, a research professor in the department of education states, “ ...the links between exposure to weapons violence and negative outcomes of trauma in kids (including depression, anxiety and aggression).” This is important because if the students are aware of the teacher’s possession then the risks of wrongdoing and mental disasters will definitely
Standardized tests are jeopardizing countless students’ mental health and future career options, as such, should be removed from a student’s requirement to graduate. Several people become so stressed that they can not properly take the test. A majority of standardized tests are timed which hurts the students who know the subject, but read or work slowly. Standardized tests use knowledge that are not taught in class to help spread out scores which hurts numerous schools. Another issue with standardized tests that if a student do poorly on them, they will be rejected by the colleges or jobs that they want.
One side of the argument is yes, teachers should be armed at all times. School districts in Missouri have allowed teachers to start training to carry guns with them, not long after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 (Ashtari). Ashtari claims teachers are now receiving 40 hours of training if the districts pay $17,500 to the law enforcement officers training them. Since teachers, in the certain school districts, now carry their firearms on their bodies, students can no longer hug their teacher or touch them. Missouri districts are not the only districts making plans to arm their teachers, some districts in Colorado are now looking into the possibility of arming their teachers.
They say the more guns we have, the more gun violence there is, but in fact it does the complete opposite and solves gun violence. After the tragic and cold-hearted school killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Connecticut, 20 children and 6 adult staff members were fatally shot. The number of school shootings within the past few decades has risen dramatically, which is just not acceptable. How can anyone accept the thoughtless cruelty with these young precious lives being treated like they are replaceable?
