several traditional household items have safety devices. medicine bottles have safety caps and lawnmowers have safety devices to stop children from injury. Guns are very dangerous items and safety measures should be used to reduce the risk of injury. several anti-gun advocates fail to acknowledge the fact that Americans have used guns to stop over a million crimes from being committed every year. several pro-gun advocates believe that the more gun laws that are enacted, the less law abiding citizens are to use them to protect themselves.
America’s Gun Crisis “Ideas pull the trigger, but instinct loads the gun.” This quote said by Don Marquis sparks the idea of the nationwide debate that is currently being fought over today. Guns have been a part of American culture for years, and within those years, they have caused a number of mournful incidents. Although they might come in handy to use for self protection, they cause more deaths than they save lives. More than 110,000 people die a year from being shot from firearm, and those people who have died might have been alive today if it wasn’t for guns. Therefore, this is one of the reasons why guns should not be legal and should no longer be a part of American culture.
A sizable argument for gun control is that a higher number of guns mean a higher number of deaths. Statistics prove that that statement is incorrect. Certain restrictions on firearms have been implemented before, and results were not good. Also, many American citizens use guns everyday to protect themselves, their families, and others. "Gun control" laws are usually proposed on the grounds they will stop the criminal misuse of firearms, but criminals do not obey laws.
According to an article by the name of “The research is clear: gun control saves lives” by German Lopez, it says, “A more recent study from 2013, led by a Boston University School of Public Health researcher, reached multiple conclusions: After controlling for multiple variables, the study found that a 1 percent increase in gun ownership correlated with a roughly 0.9 percent rise in the firearm homicide rate at the state level.” If more gun control laws were passed, it would be more difficult to get a gun. As a result, there would be fewer deaths by guns. The homicide rate would be positively impacted since people wouldn’t have guns to commit any shootings or crimes. Conversely, others may say that even though passing gun control laws will lower gun deaths, the general homicide rate will still continue to rise. It is understood that the homicide rate will still continue to increase even with gun control laws.
Also, high capacity magazines should be reduced because they increase the number of murder and injury rates. According to an investigation, at least 50% of high capacity magazines are used in 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012 (procon 2). If there is a gun at home it could be easily be stolen, 1.4 million guns are stolen from US homes between 2005 and 2010 (“Right to Bear Arms” 2). Another way to prevent gun violence is to have background check and ban on assault weapons. 83% of all adults surveyed approve of background checks according to a Pew Research survey.
This law empowers any American citizen to possess a firearm thus, people who have psychological deficiencies can buy a gun as easy as you. This law does not only empower Americans as it causes the death of 30,000 people per year, and half of this substantial number are people aged 18-35, the rest are students, teenagers, and sons. Gun control is necessary, but to
Many agree that this is a solid justification for less gun control. However, many studies say differently; having a gun in a home does not make the household more safe. Studies done by the University of California show how people with a gun in their house are three times as likely to commit suicide rather than people without a gun. Also, Americans that have guns in their home are ninety percent more likely to die from murder, according to the American Journal of Epidemiology (“The Truth”). Another fact is that a person is more susceptible to injury or harm when there is a gun in the household.
people always thinking if they have a gun, they can protect themselves. However, that is totally wrong. “The personal protection angle, that people own guns for self-defense, is impractical and glamorized. Very few gun-owning individuals have the experience, training, and temperament hard to successfully defend themselves or others in an emergency situation.” Because many people don't know how to shot the gun, it is easy to hurt themselves or others, so no guns are easier to protect themselves. “Guns are not safe.
Guns should not be allowed to be used to anyone, this can lead to serious consequences as these may be badly used for assaulting places or shootings. With stricter handgun laws and appropriate licensing, there shall be fewer casualties to save lives for a better society with no fear and safety for all. To start with, guns are risky objects that contradict the lives of people regardless of mental illness. Many casualties have resulted without no control from the American government. As a matter of fact, strict laws are doubtlessly more effective than any other alternative.
