It is recommended to have the examination but it is not mandatory. If you decide not to accept the offer of a dating ultrasound then your antenatal care will not be affected and will continue as normal.

A midwife assisted homebirth is proven to be more secure than one at a hospital. As stated in the CMAJ article, Outcomes of planned home birth,” Women in the planned home-birth group were significantly less likely than those who planned a midwife-attended hospital birth to have obstetric interventions or adverse maternal outcomes”. The CMAJ articles presents numbers from previous study from January of 2000, spanning over four years, showing that midwife assisted births are less likely to have complications. However, one reason that the homebirth numbers are lower, are that midwives will only work with low-risk mothers. Due to midwives only working with low-risk mothers, the likeliness of complications during childbirth is decreased.

Postpartum Mood Disorders Giving birth to a baby brings one of the biggest psychological and physiological changes a woman may encounter in her lifetime. Pregnancy and childbearing bring with them joy, hope and excitement and are marked by celebration. However, the birth of a child can at times be overshadowed by overwhelming emotional struggles. Due to the enormity of the changes associated with child bearing, it is highly likely that a woman may experience some form of related stress. These emotional or mood struggles are a common occurrence after childbirth and are a major postpartum challenge (Stocky & Lynch, 2000).
The mother has complete control over her body and the position in which she chooses to give birth. There are no drugs used in a home birthing and the mother can feel every ounce of pain. Not only are they letting their bodies handle the process naturally, but they are also able to form an unbreakable bond with their baby. This can also be seen as a revolt against the modern technologies and views on women. In the hospitals, mothers do not produce oxytocin at the right times or right levels, and their babies do not get this hormone when feeding on breast milk.
Now there are many resources to not feel any anguish“ epidural or spinal anesthesia, labor inductions, cesarean sections, even the placement of IV lines are a source of additional revenue for both the hospital and the practitioners involved”(Childbirth Change). Childbirth medical field has overcome many errors and have improved overtime. That now many mothers are not as anxious as of
Though the majority of expecting mother opt out for going to the nearest hospital to give birth, there are many more options that provide their own perks and benefits. It is important that every mother lay out a birth plan for what they expect and need while they are in labor. Doing so will not only relive a lot of the stress that goes along with giving birth, but also provide information to her support team about how she wants the birth of her baby to go down. There is no choice between birthing plans that is better than the rest, rather each one caters to the needs and specific requirements a mother may have during her pregnancy. Hospital births are by far the most common birthing option that woman choose.
Some cultures are extremely uncomfortable answering questions about about their bodies. Also, a lot do not like to have a male doctor touch them because it is not their husbands. There are ethnic issues, religious issues, and even family belief systems that come into play when dealing with a medical issue and we have to be aware and understanding at all times. There are some cultures that the male speaks for the female no matter if she is the one being seen. Also, other cultures and beliefs will determine how many children you will have.
Concept Hydrotherapy can be exercised in two ways during the laboring process: water immersion in labor, in which during the first stage of labor the laboring woman gets into a pool or tub of warm water prior to the baby being born and waterbirth, in which the woman remains in the water during the pushing stage. Showering also provides laboring moms with the comforts of warm water. While the concept of water immersion during labor is widely accepted, the safety of waterbirth is more controversial (Dykes, 2017). Many of the benefits of water immersion are attributed to the buoyancy of the water, such as the pressure water puts on the body. Other benefits include lower episiotomy rates and labor progress facilitation due to decreased stress and
The prenatal diagnostics and prenatal screening being routine procedures should be considered as advantage of modern medicine. It helps to reveal wide spectrum of fetus abnormal conditions, but not only congenital defects and malformations. Early detection of many of them could help to perform surgical correction and necessary management as soon as possible in order to save newborns’ lives. On the other hand, this method is widely discussed and it has many opponents, and in some countries prenatal diagnostic procedures is not considered now as a screening method. Main ethical issues are terminations of pregnancies in case of malformations, which may be supposed as eugenical abortion, inform consent and problem of decision-making process.
